Ironic you are "Aston Addict" and yet moan about this GLC being crap to drive compared to a hot hatch....because, all Astons are much better to drive than their contemporary rivals hehe A little ironic, no?

Likewise. Quite tempted with one of these (non coupe) or the new BWW X3M next year smile

If you want a spacious family wagon, and you also want a performance car, but you only want to have 1 car, then these seem like a decent solution.

Agree that all the hate is a bit pathetic, having one isn't compulsory.

So have they fixed the crabbing on RHD models? Neighbour only had theirs a couple of weeks before rejecting it and he's still got the holes in his drive to show where it had been turned around!

E65: I’ve never said Astons are better to drive than their rivals, have I?

I used to love the look of Astons of old, less so the new ones, but I guess that’s the way things are going. I used to like BMWs too and have owned many, now most of the range leaves me cold, it’s staggering in its ugliness.

And regarding your earlier comment about my comment: I can only go on the evidence I see around me: most of such cars as this Mercedes are driven locally around where I live by complete tw*ts, speeding through narrow streets and up hills like complete morons. Now it’s a generalization for sure, but can only go on what I see.

As for a hot hatch driving better than the Mercedes, it does, but of course it’s not the only reason to buy such a car. So factually I’m correct, it’s a better drivers car, but of course other factors come into play when you’re buying a car.

You cannot get away from the laws of physics, no matter how many people think it’s possible. That’s not to say that a part of me wouldn’t want a Lambo Urus though...

But nobody said these were better to drive than hot hatches, yet you decided to mention it anyway? That was why I did....it's a pointless comment. Because, for what the car is intended to do, the hot hatch doesn't drive better than this.

I don't know why PH embrace this stuff. There is nothing fanatical about this.

I'd rather read about so many other cars that don't get a look in before another German tank.

Pointless or not, it’s good to stimulate discussion, and being a free and open society, I’m entitled to express my own view, regardless of whether you think it’s pointless or not.

During your 22,000+ posts, I’m sure you’ve done similar.

Stimulate discussion, yes....compare apples to oranges for the sake of it, no. It'd be like someone saying "I'm interested in buying a Bentley Continental GT" and someone saying "buy a Lotus Elise, they're much more fun to drive"....quite possibly true, but utterly pointless all the same smile

You are indeed.

Be prepared for folk to think you’re being deliberately obtuse though and exercise their own right in return.

You must he used to it by now wink

Thing is PH is a free site that relies on manufacturers providing press materials and access to new models as they are launched as one of its major content sources.

Certain manufacturers and certain niches drive more new product launches than others, QED they get picked up.

Everybody slating this car here would love to have one if they got the chance, if there was a cheap lease deal for them at 400 a month zero deposit, they’d be queues full of people talking about the ‘ipads’ and chavvy nature!

I think they both look very smart, specifically the ‘Coupe’ version unlike its bigger sibling which looks ridiculous (although I’d still have one).

If I had the money, I wouldn’t buy either of them because I’d rather a C63/M4 but that doesn’t mean the cars are a disgrace to society and they’re hideous.

If anything, they look more subtle and definitely sound better than your beloved Range Rover’s/Range Rover Sport SVR’s!

A white SVR accelerated off today in Cobham and it honestly sounded like any old V8 barge with a straight through exhaust. It would sound cool and funny at first but after a while, it’s just a loud uninspiring racket, unlike the 4.0 V8 in the AMG wink

The real irony here is the latest Astons having Merc engines in them.

As we all know diversity if thinking and opinions are driving forces behind the evolution of humanity....just as long as the driving force isn’t a bling 4x4 eh! (Says an SQ5 owner!)

Ahh, thanks. That explains a lot. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I love it.

If I won the lottery I would have one. Looks good in white too. Love the new grill. Can understand the comments about hot hatches etc but Im 47 and dont want a hot hatch. :-)

I have a Ml55 and love the 4x4 / AMG / 5.4l engine combination.

I’d have one as a daily dog van, don’t thing I’d choose it over an rs6/c63 estate though.
+1
Much prefer an interesting estate than an overblown SUV.

Agreed. I'm months away from 40 so maybe its my age, but I'm the same these days. A few years ago I wouldn't have been caught dead in a "chelsea tractor" but thats changed - possibly a stint living in the US where big is everywhere or having kids caused the turn!

I'm not a fan of the GLC, but really like the GLE (and the older ML). With you guys - not the coupe though.

Having just swapped out of a RR vogue and into the latest c63s estate, I can’t say I’m missing the higher driving position yet. As a car that does almost everything, the c63 in estate form is epic. I did consider a fast SUV but other than the slightly raised position, I didn’t see the point in owning one over the estate. That’s just me though, each to their own.

If you're in the market for a fast SUV then I'd far rather have the new F-Pace SVR over this though. It's just as quick plus actually looks attractive!
It's also a LOT quicker that the RRSport SVR but £40,000 cheaper if you believe the youtube video of the two racing.
