What’s the best looking 4 door saloon car ever?

Since the thread title is 'What's the best looking 4 door saloon ever?' I would have thought that there was little point in posting a picture of anything that the poster didn't consider the best looking ever.
Otherwise you are just posting 4 door saloons. Not quite the point is it?
Stop being a bellend...Otherwise you are just posting 4 door saloons. Not quite the point is it?
Many of the suggestions submitted appear to be coloured by what those cars represent in terms of performance or driving characteristics rather than any inherent beauty.
If you consider for example that an M5 or an Evo is the the best looking saloon ( and you might be right, it's subjective isn't it ) then surely you must consider a 520d or a Lancer 1500 just as handsome?
The nomination of the Alfa 156 in it's most basic form ( without the sill extensions ) shows the true spirit of the thread.

The important thing for me, is that the " BEST LOOKING" car needs to be good looking from any angle at which you look at it. There are plenty of 4 doors that look decent from one or maybe two angles, but it's really, really hard to make one look good from EVERY angle!
In terms of modern stuff the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio is a good looking car, in a modern slightly fussy and over designed kind of way, particularly from the rear 3quarter view, but from other angles i'm not so sure (the straight on front view is a bit crosseyed imo).
That's why the (boring and german) E28 M5 gets my vote, because it looks good from all angles. Perhaps not quite as good as the Giulia if we are comparing their best angles, but type "BMW E28 M5" into google images and there is litterally not a single photo of that car, from any angle, where it doesn't look good, both in terms of proportions and in terms of surfacing!
Seriously, try it, go type that into google and link me to a picture that shows any "awkward" angle of the old M5 ??
Honorable second place must be the E46 CSL, not just good looking (imo) but a car that looks absolutely "fit for purpose" as well, again a trick that some more modern stuff spectacularly fails to pull off:
The old E28 just edges it by dint of the small pillared "glasshouse" something that was no longer possible by the early 2000's when the E46 came around due to ever important crash safety requirements...

Why would a Lancer 1500 look as good as an Evo? They look quite different. Same with an M5 vs 520d. As with all things, it's the small details that make them look good - larger wheels to fill the arches, nicer body trim, aerodynamic changes, nice exhaust, maybe a spoiler/wing if you like that sort of thing etc... all combine to make them look better as an overall package. If you consider for example that an M5 or an Evo is the the best looking saloon ( and you might be right, it's subjective isn't it ) then surely you must consider a 520d or a Lancer 1500 just as handsome?

There have been lots of other suggestions in which effort has gone into making the basic shape of the car elegant, well proportioned and distinctive regardless of whether it is max-power spec or not.

I can’t believe people posting all these boring and fugly looking BMW’s. Not saying they are bad cars. I like a few of them. But you’ve got to be pretty mental to think they LOOK the BEST EVER.
If someone said draw a sexy or sleek looking car. You’d not end up with anything looking like a BMW.
You're right, this thread is one MASSIVE contradiction. If someone said draw a sexy or sleek looking car. You’d not end up with anything looking like a BMW.
Everyday a topic about which German manufacture has done a mild face-lift and everyone brands it bland boring dull.
Asked what they think the best looking saloon and it appears to be mainly barely 10year old German stuff.

Seeing that most of my faves have allready been mentioned, namely the Mercs of the 80’s (126 and 124) , the BMW’s of the 90’s (e38 and e39) the Audi A8 (D2 S8 and the D3) are all amazing examples of stunning german industrial design that is almost faultless and timeless.
The more curvaceous representatives like the Jag XJ the Maseratti QP (original is the best), some sexy Alfas are hard to ignore.
We also had some nice examples of American flamboyance and over the top showmanship...love it.
What is obviously missing is the Nippon school, so I will get the ball rolling with the original Lexus LS. Hard to find a picture that does it justice, in reality it looks just right.
What a great threa. Maybe we should get a poll going.
