As much as I like the E500 and Alfa 156, for me this has to be the best ever!

And can't you buy these for a few bob and a conker?

I'd go with the e34. Great looking vehicle. But probably prefer the slightly earlier look before it was facelifted/sideskirts added.

BMW really did some great stuff around this time.

I agree with the QP series 5 and Jag XJ Series 1, both very nice.

In four-doors, I'm also quite a fan of the perfect FR proportions and flowing, rounded lines of the Mazda 929:

I really like that!
The Xedos series was quite stylish as well, apart from the over-small grille.

I remember when the new 6 had just been released, Lady H was collecting her MX5 from the service department and this striking metallic blue saloon was sitting in the showroom and I was thinking "that looks like good". Over-exposure has since lessened its impact but I think it still looks good.

And I would counter your point by saying give the same people £100k and tell them to buy the best looking 4 door saloon. I bet they would not buy the 4 door saloon they currently own.

They more than likely buy the best looking one within their budget. Not the best looking overall.
You're completely correct - I'd buy 3-4 E39 M5's with £100,000.

A vert good looking car in its day was the Vauxhall Royale. My dad replaced his XJ series 2 with a virtually new one.
Can anyone find a decent pic and post please ( I don’t know how to upload unless it’s on my device already !)
Silver if poss!!

There you go.
Cheers Brab, not the most flattering, mind you it was circa 1980 ..maybe my memory is playing tricks !

No one has ever bought an E39 M5 based on its looks.

This gets brought up quite often but I never understand it. What exactly makes the pre facelift 156 better looking? To me the facelift is a pretty, more cohesive design.

I have never understood what is good looking about the 156. It just looks squashed from the sides to me. The 159 was infinitely more attractive to my eyes.

^ got to be one of the worst IMO. Total mess from every angle and only gets worse under detailed examination. Dumbo-ear wing mirrors, random triangular vents on the front bumper, stick-on wheel arches, somehow looks both stumpy and under-wheeled...
