£48/hr in London would get your apartment dusted & vacuumed.

Oven cleaning additional at a higher rate.

£48 is stupid cheap....if you live in the home counties anyway.

My local all round performance specialist charges £90ph these days, and the local honda specialist charges about £70ph.

I shudder to think what main dealer's hourly rates are now, i've never used one.

I don't feel so robbed reading all the hourly rates people are charged, my mechanic charged me £30 an hour with no VAT smile

South east kent and my mate charges £55 ph on normal day rate and £ 40 ph on long term restoration work .
Local independents charge £60-70 ph , main dealers are £100-140ph .
Can you email me the details of this garage?

Used to use Mr Clutch at £39/hour. New management have upped it to £78/hour!
he only does classics and the waiting list is currently at 2 years and growing .
He has realised that 50% of his own projects will never get started let alone finished .

I suppose it must be linked to what the local(15 miles from York) economy can sustain. I've just paid £37.50p/h(inc VAT) for new discs and pads at an indy.

Not a direct comparison but indicative of the cost of living in the rich smug south I was expected to pay £168 +VAT per hr by my nearest main Mercedes dealer in order to re-furbish the a/c of a 2012 car & thus only too delighted when just down the road an independent Mercedes specialist of international renown would only charge me £90 per hr + VAT for the same work using genuine Mercedes parts ordered direct from the factory.
At the latter I still can lounge in luxurious leather chairs sipping good coffee & nibbling on biscuits while I wait.
£168 is ridiculous

My mate charges £35 + VAT ph. He has 10 mechanics working for him and they are flat out every day.

That doesn't necessarily mean that he is making any money though.

Especially if they're flat out because they're taking twice as long to do jobs or doing everything twice after fking it up.

I dunno what the hourly rate is at the place I use, I've been going there for about 10 years now though and while they might not be the cheapest per hour they do diagnose stuff correctly and do a good job every time, they're straight talking and honest too. Always happy to offer advice, it's nice leaving the car there and not worrying about it too much.

BMW motorrad (bikes) in Chester is £97 per hour.

Makes the BMW extended warranty worth every penny.

Wanna know what's even more ridiculous?

The person working on your car at the main dealer. Is not getting more than £20 of that hourly rate! Despite being the top level of Tech (Diagnostic) you can be in the MB dealer Network

I pay £60p/h, local VW specialist Indy in West Sussex. Seems reasonable. The man has to earn a living and pay for his overheads/tooling.

He's got a heated garage at his house that holds around 15 cars, a few worth over £100k. So he aint doing to bad.

I used to get £35/hour mates rates from a guy I went to school with. sadly he’s relocated so I’m looking for another reliable Indy.

As others have said the hourly rate may be cheap but it depends on how many hours they take. For example my mate used to look at the recommended hours for a Job and tell me he would be able to do it quicker (and ergo charge less), but if your garage is taking longer to do jobs then you might be paying a lot more, even if their hourly rate is lower.
