Hi all,

I've got an old 220k mile 2002 MK4 Golf TDI PD 130. Now I've had this car for over 5 years and steadily got it looking how I wanted to buy one originally. I've added most of the OEM parts it didn't have from the factory such as the Santa Monica alloys, front lower valance and lipped rear valance both from a PD 150. I've also added the non recaro leather seats too.

I'm after a bit more info with regards to retrofitting a few other things just to finish it off and whether it's even going to be possible to do so.

So what I was planning to do is the following...

• Purchase 4 spoke leather multi function wheel - so it works with my double din Alpine headunit and also controls the cruise function

• Cruise Control Stalk

• Purchase loom and control box so the Parking sensors that are set in the rear valance will work

  • Purchase loom and switches to wire up the heated seats so they work
I know a lot of this may seem pointless to some people and would question why i'd even bother with doing all this on such an old car, but its a car I had a plan with originally and I want to see it through and get it how I want it. Yes I could just go and find one with all this on it and pay over the odds but I have done a huge amount of things to it mechanically so it now running correct too.

I use the car to do a 240 mile round commute to work in on a daily basis, hence the mileage and I think adding these few things will just make the car just that little bit better.

This is not my only car as I own a MK7 Golf R DSG too so its not like its a deal breaker its just something I'd like to do for my own satisfaction and OCD!

Anyway thanks in advance for any help!
Andy

The UKMKIVS forum is really helpful, I bet most of those parts will be for sale on there

As for cruise control, once you have the stalk all you need is someone with VAGCOM to program it in for you, I paid someone £20 to do it on my bora many years ago, found him on the UKMKIVS site

I don’t think your crazy for that, crazy miles yes but I still think the mk4 golf especially with the Santa Monica’s is one of the best looking hatches made

My BIL has a 15 year old Passat with the same engine, it’s still such a decent car. Great engine, mpg, very little to go wrong, the only thing that makes it look 15 years old is the soot and the rusty wing!

The multi function steering wheel is quite involved, you will not only need the wheel, but a compatible upper column / slip-ring setup plus a control relay and some loomage.

Whereas a simplr cruise stalk and loom can be had for about £50 and it is reasonable easy to fit.

If you need me to code the ECU to activate the cruise and you are near Maidenhead, give us a shout.

Thanks for the replies!! I do really want the wheel ideally, even if it’s just for the audio controls to work. I know the cruise is probably the easiest thing to sort! Might take you guys up on the coding if I can’t find someone locally as I’m miles from Maidenhead unfortunately but thanks for the offer all the same!

Looks very smart, my dad had a 5 door in the same spec with black recaros and xenons as a company car, I remember how punchy it was. Lovely car

I have a 2 year old so a 5 door would’ve been the ideal really, but couldn’t find a good one at the time. They still command decent money in good shape for an older model too. Still surprises me how torquey it is! I just don’t think i’ll ever sell it. I mean what’s the point, with the intergalactic mileage nobody is going to look twice and for what I’ve put into it I’d never see the return!

Makes perfect sense for your commute, as far as I remember, everything you've listed is possible.

I'd probably head down the scrappy and get some of what you need.

That is in incredible shape for it's age and mileage. People bash the MK4 for it's soggy dynamics but in my experience, it was the best made Golf....and I've owned them all, MK1 to MK7.

With regards to cruise on MK4 chassis cars, is it as easy as fit the stalk and code in? (I know it was that easy on MK3 1.9TDI) but read somewhere it involved soldering on the MK4 chassis.

I want to fit cruise to my MK1 Leon FR+ PD150.
