This is interesting as I previously owned a Ferrari 348GTC which I decatted and fitted a Tubi exhaust and it sounded amazing - tunnels a speciality! I often had comments from car enthusiasts and ‘normal’ people about how good it sounded which I think is often a good barometer.

However I now have a 5.0 Mustang which I’ve fitted a cat back Borla system and it sounds very different but again amazing!

One thing I am sure about is videos and recordings don't really do the real like sound of the cars mentioned any justice.

360 Challenge Stradale at about 8000rpm is about as close to aural perfection as you can get I reckon

F*ck yes - it's so loud you can't really hear it, just feel it in your chest.

Mercedes E Class, 2019. Our neighbour has one and with the sports exhaust it's truly gorgeous sounding. Even at low revs. 604 bhp 4.0 V8 twin turbo.

As I said earlier, 928, X pipe, cat bypass. 5.0l.

Loud enough that when I drive come off the M54 and past the Wrekin, my mate in the pub can hear me on the way and get a pint in.

The 351 Cleveland in a De Tomaso Pantera coming out of the short exhaust pipes and through a muffler that did anything but muffle is among the best sounding engines ever.

Yes - that's the one - like mine, only mine is a GTS. Sounds more like an F1 car than F1 cars do now. The downside is that it's too loud for most track days!

Not to everyone's taste - many prefer the rumbly, deeper noted ones. I like them too.

The Merc sounds god awful, a tractor with a broken exhaust. The rover sounds great and the beemer is okay but diesels to me are just clattery and agricultural. Much prefer a petrol V8 irrespective of crank type or firing order.

My fave V8s though are the Chevy small blocks, ideally race tuned multiple carbed 302's.
