That bloody thing nearly deafened me, sat at Paddock Hill bend in 1989! Even compared to the rest of the WSPC field (Jags, Saubers etc) it was seriously loud. Several excellent mentions too for the McLaren M8, Charles Agg used to run one in a Supersports Championship that sometimes supported the BTCC back in the day. It was always a cloud9 moment to see and hear it being run- what a noise (and a serious handful eek ), it really made the Touring Cars seem pretty tame in comparison.

race car has to be endurance corvettes. they’ve defined Le Mans for me over the past 10 or so years and i’ll miss that thunder now the last of the old school N/A’s have gone.

from the cars i’ve owned it’ll be the B7 RS4 with the non resonated milltek exhaust. I preferred it to the vantage (with the obligatory fuse 22 removed).

Best road car i’ve heard in the metal (i don’t count videos) has to be the 360 Challenge Stradale. i followed one into a tunnel - i’ll not forget that.

I recall the Panoz sounding almost comically loud - but for some reason it didn't sound as nice as a big or small block Chevy . ISTR its Ford V8 had those newfangled overhead cams ?

I have a very similar engine in my car and I have a valved exhaust system.
That engine IMO is very dull sounding compared to something like a Vantage or Granturismo.
PS you're supposed to wire the flaps open on the Vantage to stop them seizing apparantly
