I think this site helps ease the transition into driverless EV cars with mandated speed limiters. No more cars, no more cancerous threads like this.

You mean "when I fell for the sales patter".

There are no discounts to be had with car dealerships, it's all sales technique and psychology. If you think your getting a deal, even if your not, you'll buy the car, sometimes even if you know full well you've been had.
Go on to the salesmen thread on here and they’ll delightfully tell you that you’re speaking out of your arse.

Something to do with back end bonuses where if they shift enough units the dealership gets handsomely rewarded from the manufacturer. If the dealership is only a few units short of hitting that target that quarter and you time your purchase right, they will sell a car to you at a loss as the back end bonus is worth a hell of a lot more than the few hundred they’ll lose on your particular deal.

But you’re not interested in facts just prejudice, aren’t you?

Yes thats exactly what I said - sensibly used its good, sadly it's also used by stupid people as it appears way too good to be true to start with - they get their new shiny thing with a fairly small outlay - who then end up in a complete financial mess when they have even the slightest cash flow problem.
Have you got evidence for default rates and their subsequent impact on personal liquidity and bankruptcy ?

The beauty of an asset backed product is of course that it’s asset backed .......

That doesn’t excuse stupidity and irresponsible lending or borrowing.

The "stupid people" as you put it are those who buy everything on finance so they can have it right now, and in doing so take themselves way beyond their means and with no escape route when / if it all goes wrong. Use it wisely and thats fine, sadly too many people are unable to do this and instead get themselves into all sorts of problems.
People being stupid doesn't make credit stupid. Plenty of people who could buy their motor many times over choose to fund it with credit, as it suits them better and is/or financially advantageous.

Abuse of credit makes the merry go round stop once in a while. Without credit the merry go round would likely never get going in the first place.

The vast majority of people will look at their disposable income and put ALL of that into monthly payments on the highest spec car they can possibly get. The vast majority is just that, it's not everyone.

This is why I disagree with the whole concept, they sell us this idea that we can buy our way into a higher social class, we keep ourselves on the breadline by chasing something that's always one more purchase away.

The UK is some sadistic mix of capitalism and marxism, there are two classes, those who work and those who don't, everything else is a lie.

I appreciate that it’s a waste of time but do you have any evidence to support that claim ?

The claim that the vast majority of people with car credit put all of their disposable income towards a car.

In rough percentage terms what do you consider the vast majority to be ?

I’m not sure you understand what vast majority means. The vast majority of people spend at least some of their disposable income on holidays or dining out or other leisure activities so it’s actually impossible for your claim to be true.

I just don't understand how people on here get into arguments over absolutely nothing, it's quite amazing.
