Used to hate the styling, but it's growing on me. The newer front really improves improves things imo.
I'm coming round to it too.
If you removed the rear wing I reckon I could live with that.
I am slightly obsessed with Honda's at the moment - not something I ever thought I'd say.
Classic NSX, Integra R DC5 and the new Civic R are all popping up on my searches.

With 300bhp+ you really need AWD to make these cars livable throughout the year in the UK.
Oh, I don't have any problems in wet conditions.

..as long as you keep the stability controls switched on wink

The thing that really impressed me about the FK8 Type-R was the lack of torque steer. It really is amazing how Honda have managed that particular problem. People that turn their noses up at FWD cars really should give it a try because it feels so much more than it should.

Well engineered, thoroughly capable, fast fwd Honda but it's oh so fugly, least you can't see the gopping exterior from the driver's seat.

I'm actually warming to the looks nowadays. Strikes me as a latter day Evo (albeit without the rally refugee pedigree).

I like the looks of the normal one and going off all the reviews seems an apsolute hoot to drive! Il take one in yellow please, but with smaller, wider wheels give it the more ‘track car’ look.

Loving the yellow. I'm one of those golf R owners who is considering a CTR. Having driven my mates fk2 version (which is fantastic to drive) the fk8 must be incredible if it's even better. As an R driver I feel qualified to respond to those who go on about 4wd traction in all weathers: the penalty is weight, weight, weight. If a fwd car using modern tech can put its power down properly then it's surely the better option if you save 100+ kg. Besides, since when was mashing the throttle with impunity proper driving? Give me something to manage so I have to think, please. (The golf is terrific though, it won't be an easy decision)

i've lost track of these now - seems to be a new one every other year, each with a more bonkers bodykit.

I think they should make the R softer and easier to live with (along with a more subtle appearance) and then do an 'RR' or something that has all the wings and spine shattering ride.

I owned an EP3 type R and had the FN2 shape Type-S - both were great cars but not for the commute which is where 90% of the 'buyer pool' spend their lives.
Do you think the FK8 has spine shattering ride when in Comfort mode?

The looks are starting to grow on me. I just can’t deal with the 3 exhausts. The only odd number of pipes should be 1.

It can’t be that bad. My friends fk2 is pretty good now he’s fitted PS4s to it - I would say roughly equivalent to my Golf R on 19s. I could live with it and I’m fussy about ride comfort. By all accounts, the fk8 is more compliant than the fk2, despite the 30 profile tyres.

I do wonder though if anyone has fitted fk2 19s to an fk8. I think they might even look better as those 20s are borderline too large IMO.

Hmmm, shame the rear lights aren't being changed. They're awful!

The whole rear end is awful, then again after the EK the Civic has just went downhill in looks, the EF, EG models still look good in my eyes.

Maybe they should try setting a ring time with a proper car before doing ring based special editions...
This would be nice as then their efforts would actually be credible.

The front end has grown on me but that's the bit they have changed. The back end and side profile still look shockingly gawky.

Mad car and mad colour in the yellow. Love it or hate it, Honda should be applauded for making something that is not only an alternative to the grey German boxes that are the scourge of our roads, but that it thumps them too at the relative price points.

Honda is the most underrated car brand out there imo.

False. My car has 357bhp, FWD and no diff and is perfectly liveable throughout the year, you just need to use a bit less throttle.
We had one for 9 months and have had a Golf R (well it was the wife’s but had use of it).

On anything other than a perfectly dry road the Golf destroyed it in the real world. The Type R just span it’s fronts in the damp if you tried to press on. In the dry is was excellent easily keep up with the golf and more expensive stuff. Note that was on the standard Contis, which by the way we’re almost bald on the inside edges when we got shot at 2.5k miles.

There is too much power for the front wheels and not enough grip when damp. That’s from a person who has owned and driven both back to back and pushed both pretty hard. That said I preferred the Type R to the golf in many ways.

That said the FK8 type R was our shortest lived car ever (and I love hondas having had many). So that says allot (mainly they aren’t very reliable .... I’ve only ever broken down twice in 20 years, both times in that).

Whilst I appreciate I’m in the minority in liking the bonkers styling, I implore anyone to stay open minded til they drive one, it’s simply incredible. And I say that as someone who’s owned & driven sports cars arguably two or three leagues above it.

I’ll steel from others here, I think if Porsche made a hot hatch it would be like this.

The Civic did reasonably well in mixed conditions when EVO tested it on track

https://magazine.evo.co.uk/2018/09/30/track-car-of...

"Over to Mr Sutcliffe: ‘Probably the most impressive car here for me in the wet, McLaren and Cayman GTS included. The way you can commit the Civic to a wet corner is unique in this company. It almost feels like it isn’t wet at all, so much purchase has the Honda under braking, on turn-in, under power on the way out, just everywhere, really. Lovely gearchange, lovely gear ratios for this particular circuit, nice touchy-feely steering, great power delivery. Just brilliant, basically.’
John is no less impressed, either: ‘What a revelation. Where did all this grip come from? Even in these conditions this is a deadly apex hunter; you can drive it like the track’s dry. And it’s fast, and punchy and full of feel and feedback and you know exactly how far you are pushing it. Great traction and stability control, too.’"
