i've lost track of these now - seems to be a new one every other year, each with a more bonkers bodykit.

I think they should make the R softer and easier to live with (along with a more subtle appearance) and then do an 'RR' or something that has all the wings and spine shattering ride.

I owned an EP3 type R and had the FN2 shape Type-S - both were great cars but not for the commute which is where 90% of the 'buyer pool' spend their lives.
The FK8 was a 2017 car, this is likely a 2020 facelift rather than a new model.

I don't know where you get the idea its not easy to live with, it has a perfectly comfy suspension mode, and even in R+ its not especially hard core. Comfortable seats, lots of toys and space.

You are getting confused with the previous model FK2 which was excellent but unyielding

Glad you posted this, at first I thought ‘here we go’, but no I was wrong. Very refreshing, at times I forget this is suppose to be an enthusiasts forum, it usually seems more akin to the sixth form common room, & it’s a long time since I was there!

all of the rear ones are fake and most of the front ones have no gaps in them either

I agree, fake vents and sh!t styling, are total deal breakers for me. Ultra low profile tyres and oversized alloys are stupid idea on UK roads too.
Shame as I love the way they drive, and gearbox and the power, even the interior is a nice place to sit.

Its hilarious right, Super car Top Trumps on cars anyone can afford. Pathetic really.

I do wonder though if anyone has fitted fk2 19s to an fk8. I think they might even look better as those 20s are borderline too large IMO.
I think you'd lose some of the sharp turn in

I don't mind the way they look but this is the main issue that stops me walking into the showroom. The roads are getting worse not better and this is unlikely to change. I don't want to be running the gauntlet with dented rims and punctures every time I go out.

Does anyone make after-market carbon fibre 'proper' vents that could be swapped for the OEM ones? I'd chop my FK2 in for a 10th gen type R if they were available.

I genuinely can't believe this is preventing you from buying one. If it worries you that much, buy the car, sell the 20s and buy some (cheaper) smaller wheels.

That is some faff though. Honda should sell some decent road wheels in the 1st place.

The Civic did reasonably well in mixed conditions when EVO tested it on track

https://magazine.evo.co.uk/2018/09/30/track-car-of...

"Over to Mr Sutcliffe: ‘Probably the most impressive car here for me in the wet, McLaren and Cayman GTS included. The way you can commit the Civic to a wet corner is unique in this company. It almost feels like it isn’t wet at all, so much purchase has the Honda under braking, on turn-in, under power on the way out, just everywhere, really. Lovely gearchange, lovely gear ratios for this particular circuit, nice touchy-feely steering, great power delivery. Just brilliant, basically.’
John is no less impressed, either: ‘What a revelation. Where did all this grip come from? Even in these conditions this is a deadly apex hunter; you can drive it like the track’s dry. And it’s fast, and punchy and full of feel and feedback and you know exactly how far you are pushing it. Great traction and stability control, too.’"
Mirrors my experience at various wet track days including Spa and Oulton Park. The FK8 really is very good in the wet.

It's not st at all. It appeals to those who want a fast car to look like one. It's the polar opposite of a Golf R of which a number of people have said (owners) that it was just a bit too dull.

Its not that simple. The car has been setup to work with those wheels and fitting any old 19" wheels can have an adverse affect on the handling. Apparently the only wheel that will fit the car without ruining the handling is the 19" wheels fitted to the previous Type-R.

The standard 20" wheels look good and do not affect the ride quality at all, I have had no issues (touch wood) with potholes etc so a bit of a non issue really

As for the fake grills are they really so terrible? Pretty much every car has styling that has no purpose, I personally like the black contrast against my championship white car

And what is wrong with 3 exhausts?

It's sad that a brilliant car is ridiculed for going against the norm, I can see why people may not want to own one and dont appreciate the styling but you can see by the reactions on here why manufacturers play it so safe

My own personal experiences is that in the real world I have nothing but compliments about the car

If the bodywork that is moulded around the grill, the lip and whatnot, contributes to a precision downforce package then does it really matter if the grill is fake? If the Civic is as accomplished as that Evo review suggests, then the whole bonnet could be a fake grill and I wouldn't care if I owned one.

With tyres of that profile it must be very firm on bumpy roads?

Its not firm on bumpy roads anymore than a Golf, in comfort it rides better than one and even in +R its not at all bad. It has fantastic damping - a league more sophisticated than anything else in this class, and un-real composure when the road is uneven and broken.

I still don't like the fake grills on the back of the FK8, but the rest of the car i've grown to like now. Saying that, the grills aren't as noticeable when the car is painted in black. I like cars to look different from blendinginblandboxes so i'm all about something that stands out, especially in a hot hatch..it just makes sense with the civic type r. I wouldn't want a luxury cruiser to look as wild as the civic's do though.

Maybe one day i'll chop the FK2 in for an 8...

My FK8 rides much much better than my Megane with upgraded Ohlins, no matter how the Frenchy is set up. The dampers really are something that you have to experience to believe!
