Hello all,

I have a Gt Silver Cayman GTS which I specked from new.
Upon ordering, I wanted to spec the Sport buckets, but was discouraged to do so by my sales guy !
Now, 4 years later, I am still lamenting the fact that I don't have the buckets !
Last year, I tried to order direct from Porsche, however, they require a VIN number !
So, what I need is a VIN number of a CGTS with bucket seats, and Rhodium silver stitching, to match my GTS interior.
This will enable me to order Sport buckets for my car.
I am based in South Africa, and not a single Cayman 981( Except GT4, which had Light weight buckets ) came into the country with buckets !
I may be asking alot ? Please correct me if I am !
If anyone is prepared to help me, I will forward my email address.
Many thanks, B

Don't forget they sit high in the car and are non adjustable for height. Make sure they're what you really want before spending the approximate £8000+ they'll cost you!

Your sales guy was probably giving you sensible advice.

Whilst Sports Buckets can be fantastic, they can also be a pita, and they don't 'fit' everyone. I always find them too upright.

Most people who buy a CGTS for regular use will probably want one of the normal, multi-adjustable/heated/memory Sports Seat options, unless doing regular track days.

However, only you can judge what you want and what you find most comfortable. Good luck

Some experience that may help here...

Firstly, I would also recommend Teile.com as a source - good to deal with, accurate description of the stock they hold and very fast (and well protected) shipping. They will haggle a little, I found... My experience was entirely positive.

Secondly, I assume you are talking about the sports bucket which I take to mean the 'folding' or 'GT2' style bucket, rather than the more upright (but terribly fashionable...) fixed-back, 918-style (or "lightweight bucket") version. Everyone is a different shape but, whilst not height adjustable, the folding type are recognised by many as being more comfortable party because they are less upright. This is particularly the case if you ever wear a helmet in the car; many drivers with 918-style fixed-back seats have to install additional brackets at the front fixing points to tilt the seat into a more reclined position. So folding backs certainly makes sense to me.

And then the cost; well, don't worry - because you will be able to recoup pretty much whatever you pay for them now by selling-on the buckets separately when you come to resell your car in due course. Man-maths? Maybe, just a touch, but I think it's pretty safe..

Finally, one further point: if you end up with a pair of LHD buckets, you will need to swap-over the passenger-side and driver-side seat belt buckles (short-ends) and a related under-seat connector. This is because the seat belt warning device is (in most markets) fitted only to the passenger seat - so the LH bucket on a RHD car and vice-versa. Otherwise, it's plug and play (and takes only around 40 minutes or so to swap back, for instance if you're off on a long road trip) - there are no other electrical or coding implications and the side/thorax airbags will function as per your sofas.

If you need more information, have a quick search under my user-name for a thread that I posted last year; I went this exact same route in my 991.1 GT3.

Good luck!

James

Edited to add the link to my earlier posts - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... You have to wade through the preamble before you reach the meaty part...

Thank you all for the excellent help !
I really am impressed with your all willingness to offer assistance and advice !
I am going to have to try Teile for some folding buckets and rhodium silver stitching and alcantara.
Trying to find this perfect combo is probably going to be an issue, but it has to be as it was from factory for me.
I am 100 % confident with the buckets.
I have the Light weight (918) in a couple of other cars and they fit me like magic.
I do close to 1000 Km's a day without any issue, so I am assuming the folding buckets will be similar, except for height adjustment, which I hear I can set myself with a set of spanners ?

I don't think you'll get much height adjustment on the folding buckets, no matter how comprehensive your spanner set! I have heard that you can remove part of the mounting subframe so that the buckets sit more or less on the floor but that will only give you a tad more headroom and take you away from stock/OEM...

That said, I wouldn't worry about height anyway; i think my folding buckets are at about the same height - maybe a bit lower, even - as the adaptive sports that were fitted originally. The 918's can go lower, apparently, but I don't think you'll have an issue moving from sofas to folders.

I fear, though, that you may find it difficult to source black with rhodium stitching through Teile or elsewhere (this will be down to luck, in part). But be aware that Porsche should be able to supply the three leather cover parts (two seat sides and single back piece) in black leather with rhodium stitching as separate items. They are listed in the relevant area within V-Pages if you're interested. So, worst case is that you grab some folding buckets with Alcantara cushions but in any old stitching colour, source the three cover pieces (per seat) separately and get a local trimmer to fit the new parts. Probably not a cheap option but you'll get exactly what you're after.

Edited to add link to relevant V-Pages pdf; you'll find the seats and various cover parts in Section 8: www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/en/KAT...

Sports Seats Plus sit as low as the 918s do, but the 18-ways are as high as the Sport Buckets due to all the electric motors I think.

That would be consistent with my subjective impression that I didn't notice any appreciable change in height (and certainly not an increase in height) when moving from 18-ways to folders.

If Teile don't have any, these guys look to have a decent set :

Shows the value of a good set.

One thing to watch, though. These are North America spec seats and the passenger seat (it swaps over sides in different photos!) incorporates the 'advanced occupant position sensing' electronic boxes and pressure-detecting seat runners. I'm not sure whether these would be plug and play in a SA (non-sensing) installation, even allowing for the LH to RH swap-over that would be needed for the seat belt short-ends.
