Naaaah! Quite happy running my antique E90 smile it's actually starting to look refreshingly different compared to these monstrosities now, when it was boring and staid when released.
Same. My E92 is such a simple design. No flashy cuts/slashes in it. Wasn't as keen on the rear lights on the E90 but still as a car with the right wheels, it looks good. They didn't have the big plastic look to everything. Mine is 11 years old this year and has aged well I think.

I didn't like the bangle car's to start with but as they have gotten older it's grown on me. The 5 series touring is a nice if a bit big/heavy looking simple design. I always likes the E36 coupes as well and especially with the motorsport bumpers, really simple and clean looking cars. A lot of the modern car designs give the feeling that it has a feature to stand out and the more of these stand attributes makes for a better looking car. No one can say the civic type r is a good looking car. Functional/purposeful maybe but not good or aesthetically pleasing.

But what do I know, I think the 928 (in fact all the front engined Porsches, the 924 the least though) is a very cohesive and good looking car and that was largely unloved for a long time. I also like my VX220 and think that has aged well but was on the cusp of having weird bits added, like the random door line that goes nowhere on the front and rear clams.

Bottom right box just needs a little tweak to include the phrase “pulled the trigger”

Luckily, if you actually like cars it drives better and is pretty decent inside.
I had an F30 in SE spec for the day a few weeks ago and was horrified by how it drove. I wrote a full review, but haven't posted it because I know it'll be controversial. I do hope the new car drives better!

As does the Jaguar XE, IMO, but the lower door cards aren't as cuddly so clearly it's an inferior car. biggrin

The new one with the M-Sport bits and bobs was quite impressive. Mind you, that’s stepping out of an Audi A4 biggrin

BMW seem to have a knack for getting one of the suspension setups to work well and the other to be completely dire on each model; it seems pretty random which is which though. smile

Someone may correct me here, but I think the Giulia is auto only in the UK, and the Jag is only a manual in the 2.0 diesel. Not a problem for some, but for me its a deal breaker. Shame, as I welcome the choice and I was horrified how badly the F30 I tried the other week drove.

Agree with that, the older M-Sport package which l tried just made things uncomfortable. People will always like to slate the new ‘anything’ BMW but it is a decent drive for a modern car. I also liked the new interior and dash layout. Size wise it looks to have grown but not so much. Good tool for the job.

And it annoys the hell out of the usual suspects, what’s not to like wink

I think BMW have done well with the new 3 Series; I think it looks great.

M340i is certainly high on the list of cars I want next!

I thought that, but everyone seemed to be going with grill, so I switched.

Sorry.
Its not hard, if you cook Sausages, chops, toast etc on it, its a Grill, if its on the front of a car or covering a window for security its Grille, if it drinks its own piss and eats insects its Gryll.

I believe that the M340i with its xdrive isn't that far off the M4 acceleration wise...impressive stuff I reckon.

You are right about the six banger BMW engines they really are great engines
The 4 cylinder 2 Litre Turbo in this current model isn't too bad in fairness, and in some ways I actually prefer it to the old N/A 3 Litre engine. getmecoat
Is that in 2.0 241bhp flavour?

I'd be very interested in your impressions - kinda torn between a 228i and a 125i or 135i coupe (I know the 135i is blown but the running costs aren't much different to the 125i)
I've driven the 248 bhp version in a 530i and I have the 189 bhp version in my Cooper S. I really like how the performance is delivered and torque comes in really early(1200rpm Cooper S/1500rpm 530i).

The engine revs very smoothly for a 4 cylinder and in the 530i mated to the ZF8 auto I thought it felt very refined. It doesn't have the hunger for revs like the old N/A engine but as an engine to use daily I actually prefer the way it delivers its performance.
Thanks - sounds a smidge diesel like in delivery - very easy to drive but probably lacking in sparkle from a driver enjoyment perspective (well my enjoyment perspective I mean),

I keep expecting the grille to open like a pair of gates and a Mini to drive out.

No worries smile

Yes it is a bit diesel like in its delivery(which I don't mind as a daily driver), but I agree that from an excitement/enjoyment perspective it does lack the depth of a nice N/A engine for sure.

So where does one go for a classy premium saloon or sports car these days that is not as common as muck, without stigma or the social baggage that will not label you as a flash rich berk?
A Volvo for the saloon.
