It creates the brand obsession, that’s the whole point!
Hmm, nope I disagree completely. It creates an implicit association between that brand and the market segment. That is not brand snobbery. With the power of advertising and product placement and of course pcp Audi and LR are 2 of the most aspirational marques on the market and it has nothing to do with how they drive I can assure you.
Stick a Merc BMW or Audi badge on any hideous looking turd of a car and it will still sell whereas a great driving beautifully designed car without those badges just won’t sell in any great numbers.
If you think it’s not down to badge snobbery fair enough but if you think the 1000s of A class Mercs are bought because of the great drive think again they are bought because of the 3 pointed star first and foremost!

No worries the tasteless yob brigade will love it, thus taking the brand even further down market.
So where does one go for a classy premium saloon or sports car these days that is not as common as muck, without stigma or the social baggage that will not label you as a flash rich berk?
Just find a st one. No-one will buy those and you won't be common.... So where does one go for a classy premium saloon or sports car these days that is not as common as muck, without stigma or the social baggage that will not label you as a flash rich berk?
Or stop labelling people based on their cars?

For 99% of the public, the actual differences between say a 3 series, XE, A4 and Gulia are minuscule - similar level of kit, ample performance, leg room etc that personal preference becomes a much bigger say and ultimately that decides on which gets bought.
Marketing plays a huge part on deciding which order the cars get looked at and typically people will buy the first or second car they test drive.

You are both arguing the same point but from different viewpoints. the term "Brand Snobbery" is wrong - of course it pays a massive part but that doesn't make it snobbery.

Exactly what I was trying to get across, but more succinctly put. I don’t see what all the drama is about, looks like any other 3’er really or any other Bmw. Not a piece of art nor does it burn my eyes out, just a non event that does the job it was made for without fuss.
Were people get all this snobbery or badge leagues from I have no idea I see hundreds of 3/4/5’ers or rivals from Ford, Vauxhall, merc whoever every day and I have no difference of opinion of the driver for any.

Makes you sick that somebody gets paid oodles of dosh to come up with that.
The entire looks shrieks Germanic domineering arrogance.
Woe betide any deluded superior being who tries to tail-gate me in that.
You're probably reading a little bit too much into it. The entire looks shrieks Germanic domineering arrogance.

Little Englander me thinks.

He’s reading into this, almost exactly what he reads into everything!
Seems utterly preoccupied with others class, snobbery, image and all things related to jealousy of others / cars perceived status
I am glad to see the back of that bonet leading edge / front bumper line.
I think we just need to get used to the idea, that perhaps we’re hanging on a little to tightly, to the idea that the 3er is an attractive car?
Does it look less offensive, with a chrome grill perhaps?
Perhaps the black grill, would be good, for a black car?
I think the saddest design element on the new car, is the long high front overhang.
