Which was great, with brand new front tyres smile

Otherwise a bit pointless.

The bonnet is an improvement over the old one, the kidney grilles look kind of cheapo but not terribly offensive. That high front overhang is hideous though.

You do know the throttle is not an on off switch? wink

But if you used all 345bhp (not 350bhp wink ) then it wasn't good....which is why they don't still make it and have replaced with AWD. QED.

Yes, but, even with 200HP in my old Integra after 3-4000 miles the edges would wear off the fronts and it ruined the turn in. I cannot imagine the sort of witchcraft necessary to tame 350HP. I would just make the chassis RWD and be done with it.

People choose BMW ,Merc and Audi over the Alfa and Jag because of brand snobbery first and very little to do with dealers because most JLR showrooms are state of the art and the monthlies on the XE are pretty competitive but sheepole like iPhones over cheaper inferior competitors and it’s the same with cars especially in that segment.
People buy BMW, Mercedes and Audi over Jag because the cars are simply better. It's that simple. I wanted to like the XF - I put 2500 miles on n X260 Portfolio as a rental - but it couldn't hold a candle to the old shape 5 Series let alone the current one. It felt like a posh Kia.

This is an extract from Autocar road test with the 5 series!

The XF feels like a natural athlete, suffusing even its everyday motorway gait with a flavour of its softly sprung, effortless brilliance, and it makes the 5 Series feel like a journeyman – a gifted amateur, perhaps – with a practised but not nearly so polished routine.

Opinions vary but the fact is people are badge brainwashed imo.

But that is for packaging reasons though as it is essentially now a FWD platform. So to tame the additional power it needs AWD.

Such a shame as RWD was one of the reasons it stood out from the crowd.

From a FWD platform rather than changing RWD to AWD

‘Suffusing even its everyday motorway gait’

rofl

Jesus wept, reason enough not to buy one. How about, despite being very good, the Jaguar can’t shake off it’s image problem.

Has a RWD mode and clearly not a FWD based platform.

The latest CAR test said, in essence, that the 3 Series was the one you'd buy but the Giulia is the car you actually want. The Alfa drives better....

“It’s the one you would actually want” but they don’t sell even if it “drives better”

Badge engineering. smile

To make it more drivable, safely, for more people of varying skill. It has got 600hp or thereabouts.

I think AWD had become a marketing thing too, it is seen by many as desirable so it doesn't matter if it helps, hinders or does nothing at all as people will pay for it.
