RE: Vegantune Evante: Spotted
Discussion
As I remember George Robinson and his partner, a Mr John Sismey, were ex BRM and enjoyed a high reputation for their work, becoming official Lotus engine reconditioners for a time. The Evante stemmed from the feeling that the late lamented Elan Sprint never had a worthy successor as Lotus moved upmarket. I understand they became entangled with legal issues with Lotus over what they regarded as a rip off Elan. They progressively altered the styling as a consequence, and as we can see, the further away they moved from the original the unhappier the result. Today, a well sorted Elan Sprint DHC is still a lovely usable thing, but now expensive. I love Elans, but this Evante does nothing for me.

If I remember correctly, that was a piece by Peter Dron. If the client wanted to come out on road tests, I'd invite them out with Peter as he was not only an extraordinarily skilled driver, but also extraordinarily brave. A few minutes in the passenger seat ensured that future outings would be uncompromised by the client's CEO gushing sales brochure praise.
