Funny point, they designed the new front grille based on the Chinese market. Carwow did quick tour around a motor show in China and the consensus their was that they all absolutely loved it.
Seems BMW know their markets more than a few people on PH
I thought a lot of the shape of new cars at the front these days was dictated by safety - see EuroNCAP's pedestrian rating for example. Cars aren't allowed to be as spiky in case somebody jumps out in front of your 7-series while you are lighting a cigar with a twenty, essentially.Seems BMW know their markets more than a few people on PH
No doubt more comparisons will be made between the E39 and E38 here.
I have an E39 and I love it, but the difference in build quality between the E39 and E38 is immense, simple things like the fact that an E38 can use up to double the amount of trim clips that also more often than not have foam washers is a prime example.
Lovely bus. Unfortunately, this dealer like Hexagon before them vastly inflate the prices of their stock.
I wonder what price it'd be up for if they'd bought my 112k Mile '03 530i Sport Manual for £1200 instead of me. I imagine it would start with a five at least.

What does this has this offer over say, a 5.0 CLS for half the price (regardless of mileage). Or you could for for a 5.5 later version for a similar outlay.
Indeed, I used to drive one of these my FIL had and it was lovely back in 94 aged 23 smoking about in a proper thing like that, but I had the CLS 5.5 which I sold to a PHer 18 months ago for 5 grand, higher mileage but pretty tidy.I just cant get to nearly ten grand for one of these based on that. a nice one like this is worth decent money but buy it at say nine grand, then use it for six months and see how many bites you get at anything like that price.
Just dont think there are that many punters wanting a twenty odd year old BMW barge for ten grand that isnt a M car of some description.
Lovely old thing though.

Different class of car. The 7 has much more rear leg room, for a start. It's an S class rival, not a CLS rival.
Appreciate that. But I'm not employing a chauffeur, would be in the driving seat myself.Actually, need to drive one at some point.
Fantastic cars, under appreciated and under valued for years, now creeping up.
The V12 of course shares its engine with a Rolls Royce.
I miss my old Calpyso Red 750il massively.
The dealer selling the silver 740i stocks a lot of RHD Jap import stuff so the plate might be obscured due to it not being UK registered yet. He has had some very very nice e38s over the years.

The E38 is the sweet spot of the 7 series in many peoples opinion.
The Alpina B12 5.7 and 6.0 versions were epic!
Ive owned a pair of facelift 750iL's and daily drove them with the fuel consumption mot much worse than an 540i (Owned couple of them as well)
The electrical platform was filtered down to the subsequent E39, E46 and E53 models and is actually reasonably reliable.
The M73 V12 is very under stressed unit and mechanically more robust than the M60/62 V8's.
