this is already a green engine: 8 pot with 6 pistons!
I had heard that, so it's true then?

same size external dimensions, crank for 8. block is apparently a new cast, not sure whether the piston holes still exist or not. presumably they reconfigured oil galleys.

The "its a v8 with 2 cylinders blanked off" is pub talk and utter tosh.

It shares some key datum points so it can be built on the same assembly line as the V8, that is all.

Don't the V6 and V8 share a common crank case? As I understand it the six cylinders in the V6 are in exactly the same location relative to the flywheel as the front-most 6 cylinders of the V8; for optimal weight distribution they should really be where the rear-most 6 cylinders of the V8 are.

It's not a big problem but it is a decidedly inelegant piece of engineering.

I picked this one up a couple of weeks ago to replace my BMW i3.

It was £600 less than the link. They had created a new ad at a lower price but only deleted the lower price one. The wheels look better in real life.

It's like 2 cars in 1, luxurious and smooth on 1 side, but manic in dynamic mode.

Noise of the v6 burble and supercharger whine from up front is just great!

It's also well specced as standard compared to ze germans.i have electric seats, self parking (not used yet!), rear camera, adaptive suspension, meridian stereo, blind spot monitoring, self dipping full beam, folding mirrors, etc etc

I'm not sure how poster above can say it's worse than c class and 3 series in every way. Almost all the reviews I watched said it's better handling than both. I haven't driven the 340i but have driven the 330e (and m135i) and the xe is better than 3 series in my opinion.

I am a BMW fan, but the interior of the xe feels more special than the fairly bland 3 series, even if some of the materials lower down in the cabin are worse.

The swept volume of the V6 would equate to a 4.0 V8; a capacity that Jaguar hasn't made in over 15 years, and in a technically previous generation engine. Makes me think there's more to this engine than simply "two cylinders removed".

It is actually an 8 cyl block and crank with two unused cyl,'s and crank journals. The journal oilways are merely covered with a clip and rubber gasket and the bores filled with a plastic based foam.
