The steering wheel on these is smaller than the 172/182 and R26 Megane. In fact I even put a 200 wheel in my R26 when I had it!

As others have said, once you drive it you'll quickly forgive the basic interior. Having said that it doesn't offend me at all, but then I have had a few Renault's now. Just avoid the Cups as they use the really basic Clio interior.

That looks fantastic! Cup spoiler is all mine is missing. I've seen your car on Tom's GP thread before and part of the reason I went for white biggrin

Ben, you are in good company. Bought ours from Steve Murr (great chap) in June 2010 with 1.8K miles on the clock - exactly the same spec as yours save the Recaros. Much to my regret we sold her some years later with 78K miles on the clock having never missed a beat.
Glad to hear it!

Desperate to try one of these, at the moment I sprint a 172cup which has managed a fair few class wins, I can see they are a fair bit more powerful and a fair bit more heavy anybody had both and like to comment?
It's a bit early for me to call it but first impressions is the 200 would be quicker (but more expensive to run). I've got another long-term 1*2 fan to win over who's coming out on track with me next week in it. If you're ever in Kent give me a shout.

Gorgeous spec op cloud9

I have a 197 F1 and I bloody love it. My only gripe was the recaros sit way too high, however I’ve fitted a set of custom mounts today and it’s allowed me to lower the seating position by 50mm. Car now feels completely different ergonomically!
Thanks! And agreed – where do I get said mounts?

Truly amazing drivers cars.

In July I’ll have had mine 10 years and won’t ever sell it.

Full fat + cup chassis + recaros is the pick of the specs. The speed lines add about a kilo per wheel so better to go with the standard cup wheels.

Also the cup spoiler just adds drag and reduces top speed - someone on here tested it and found it took off 4mph or something.

Cheers! May have to invest at some point.

A lot thirstier that's for sure! But easier to live with so far as a daily and on longer journeys with a lighter clutch and less road noise. I'll drive it back to back with a 182 soon though for an upcoming fleet article for a more thorough comparison.

Brilliant thanks. Anyone have any opinions about this vs. Twingo RS of similar vintage? Of course the Clio is likely faster, is bigger, etc.

Coincidence? I also have a RS200 and an Elise 111S. Set of Yokohama Neova AD08R tyres transformed the Clio's handling especially on track. Double coincidence- the Yokys were also fitted standard on the Elise. Avon ZZRs are better.

Currently running a Clio 197 F1 Cup as my daily...although I still only managed to do 1500 miles in it last year which was somehow less than I did in the weekend toy. paperbag
Great fun little thing, doesn't feel as fast as the Civic EP3 TypeR it replaced but feels a lot better handling, and feels like it'd be a hoot on track, so hopefully going to get a trackday booked soon. driving

Had two of these. Traded my 197 in for an Elise S. Six months later, I traded the Elise in for a 200. Kept the 200 for four years. One of the best driver’s cars ever made. Went all over Europe in it. Loved it.
Why did it out shine an elise? I keep thinking I should get an elise instead of my E92 M3, Mainly because I imagine it would feel more special and fun as a weekend toy despite the less exciting engine. I don't really need the 'practicality' i.e. extra seats that the M3 offers.

I had a Clio 197 for 6 months to try one and really loved it, but winter came and I sold it when I got the M3, thinking it wouldn't get used. The clio was such a hoot I would love to have another some time. Just always thinking about what car would give the best thrills for me so would like to know more about how the clio and elise compare.

Superb! I've been running ZZRs on all of my cars I've tracked and they're incredible, relentless grip in the dry. Probably won't be long until I have a second set of wheels for the 200...

My ten pence worth – my 111S was fantastic to own and one of the few cars I really regret selling. I've tried to buy it back three times but the chap I sold it to isn't having any of it hehe So far the only car I've driven that has matched the sense of occasion (other than a Caterham) is a 570S at ten times the cost. The Clio doesn't come close to how special an Elise feels to drive.

Where the Clio really shines is just how predictable and confidence inspiring it is as a FWD car – you always feel completely in control. Whereas the back end on my Elise caught me out a few times (probably more lack of talent) but as a result, I never wanted to drive it that hard. The Clio can go flat out (almost) everywhere and is worth a lot less too.

Not sure if I am looking back with rose tinted glasses but I definitely miss my clio trophy more than my Elise.

I had a quick drive of a non cup 200 and was impressed. I was going to get a 200 after my trophy but got the Elise instead. Still fancy a 200 but might try a megane next

Glad to be of service on the GW front - I still look back at mine every time I park it.

If yours doesn’t have a lowered drivers seat then that is the biggest mod you can do! Always amazes me how stupidly high the seat is when I get in the passenger seat!

April also saw KW v3 ordered and waiting on delivery so should sit and handle just right soon, hopefully in time for me and Tom’s hoon up through Wales to Anglesey last week of May.

I’m also in the process of buying second wheels - keeping the PS4/speedlines for winter. The PS4 are the best tyres I’ve ever had for autumn/winter hoonage and we’re surprisingly good on track.

I am about to buy some summer wheels - the slightly wider/lighter 8j cup speedlines and was going to put Yoko AD08R on them.

Have you tried the Yoko’s and what are the ZZRs like for a 80/20 road/track split? Also what they like in the wet?

I have Yokohama ad08r on mine, they are transformational if you’ve not used track rubber on a Clio before.

No issues in wet or standing water, as long as one is careful.

Have my black diamonds ready to go on already biggrin Be interested to hear how you get on with the KWs. Hoon through Wales you say...

I took my Megane to Spa on PS4s and it was sensational, really fantastic tyres for road and track and hold up well in the wet too with predictable grip.

I had AD08Rs on my last 182 Cup and found they were horrendous in the wet personally; nearly had a big accident on the M25 which was terrifying! Never took them on track though so can't comment on that front. ZZRs would equally be pretty useless in the wet and I don't think they'd last long for road use so would only really recommend them for dedicated track use.

Have you considered Cup 2s? That's what I'll be putting on mine once I've rinsed through the current Conti Sports on the car. It's almost annoying that they're in nearly new condition hehe
