I have Yokohama ad08r on mine, they are transformational if you’ve not used track rubber on a Clio before.
No issues in wet or standing water, as long as one is careful.
This is what I keep being told! No issues in wet or standing water, as long as one is careful.
If the car is a track toy then it’s a worthwhile compromise, however if the car is destined as a daily then I think Continental sportcontacts (5/6) are very good as an all round tyre - for me they worked well enough on track and weren’t too bad in snow either!

Glad to be of service on the GW front - I still look back at mine every time I park it.
If yours doesn’t have a lowered drivers seat then that is the biggest mod you can do! Always amazes me how stupidly high the seat is when I get in the passenger seat!
Oh and you need to join the black diamond club

April also saw KW v3 ordered and waiting on delivery so should sit and handle just right soon, hopefully in time for me and Tom’s hoon up through Wales to Anglesey last week of May.
I’m also in the process of buying second wheels - keeping the PS4/speedlines for winter. The PS4 are the best tyres I’ve ever had for autumn/winter hoonage and we’re surprisingly good on track.
I am about to buy some summer wheels - the slightly wider/lighter 8j cup speedlines and was going to put Yoko AD08R on them.
Have you tried the Yoko’s and what are the ZZRs like for a 80/20 road/track split? Also what they like in the wet?
Have my black diamonds ready to go on already Be interested to hear how you get on with the KWs. Hoon through Wales you say...If yours doesn’t have a lowered drivers seat then that is the biggest mod you can do! Always amazes me how stupidly high the seat is when I get in the passenger seat!

I took my Megane to Spa on PS4s and it was sensational, really fantastic tyres for road and track and hold up well in the wet too with predictable grip.
I had AD08Rs on my last 182 Cup and found they were horrendous in the wet personally; nearly had a big accident on the M25 which was terrifying! Never took them on track though so can't comment on that front. ZZRs would equally be pretty useless in the wet and I don't think they'd last long for road use so would only really recommend them for dedicated track use.
Have you considered Cup 2s? That's what I'll be putting on mine once I've rinsed through the current Conti Sports on the car. It's almost annoying that they're in nearly new condition
We have a trip up through Wales planned Thurs 30th (Brecon Bs/Black mountain/ coastal road etc) to Anglesey for a track day next day (31st) and the home on the 1st June.
Always room for another Clio!

I would add that due to the stiffer sidewalk and thinner tread, they do make the cup cars feel even stiffer on the road.

Worth adding with my AD08Rs they were used on a set of wheels I bought and I didn't check to see how old they were, so may have not been at their best. Still plenty of tread though. If the car is a track toy then it’s a worthwhile compromise, however if the car is destined as a daily then I think Continental sportcontacts (5/6) are very good as an all round tyre - for me they worked well enough on track and weren’t too bad in snow either!
I've got Sport Contact 5s on mine at the moment so look forward to seeing how they hold up at Brands next week off the back of your comment!

Ben, as form would suggest you change your cars quicker than your socks, please can I have first refusal on this when you come to sell.....
Depends on how quickly you want to buy one On first impressions this won't be going anywhere anytime soon. But then I always say that...MrTouring said:

Very kind thank you! Would have loved to join but I've already got most of next week off, but definitely be keen next time. Keep me posted on your tyre decision.BaronVonVaderham said:
Brands is my local track, brilliant fun in a 200 too!
The SC5s can get a quite warm with continued lapping as they are not a specialized track tyre, so keep them cool if you don’t want to shred them, or fill your boots if you do
Same, I'm only 20 minutes away. Excellent thanks for the advice! I don't really go out for endurance sessions so should keep them in fairly good condition with 15/20 minute stints. Might be organising a local drive out around Kent soon so will drop you a message if it's going to happen. The SC5s can get a quite warm with continued lapping as they are not a specialized track tyre, so keep them cool if you don’t want to shred them, or fill your boots if you do
Great choice - how do you find the Cup setup, as ours is 'very stiff' over anything than a smooth surface ? Was considering swapping ours for a Meg RS265 Trophy; what Meg did you have and any thoughts on the comparisons. Purely a second car so like to swap around to experience different models.

It's definitely less forgiving than a Megane, although I'm considering a set of coilovers to see if that improves the ride. The Megane (mine was a 250) is a very different beast and I can't recommend them enough, I'd had another in a heart beat. Quite a few links to my back catalogue at the bottom of this article if you fancy a read https://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-fleet/au-r...MrTouring said:
So I’ve put Cup2s on the front for now and initial thoughts are that they are superb and make an already pointy front end ultra responsive. Grip is sensational. Love em!
Glad to hear it! I actually ended up going with PS4s on mine as I couldn't quite justify the extra for the Cup 2s but will certainly be looking at them next time. Be interesting to see how long they last for you.Rob197 said:
My 197 at Snetterton for EnduroKa Sunday service. May be alone but I prefer the 197 front
Nice to meet you there Rob – looking good to me!Looking at a 200 for track car that can also do 3k pa of occasional daily stuff.
Wondering whether cup chassis essential or if coil overs could do the job?
I really want track seats (Recarros or aftermarket), AC and track suspension.
Coming from a well sorted mx5 track special. I don’t think the Clio will better this, but I do fancy a change and some additional practicality.

If you're getting a non-Cup car and fitting coilovers, I think all you'll be missing is the faster steering rack that you get on Cup packed cars. I'd hazard a guess that they're in higher demand too so would be easier to sell and the red Brembos just look so much better than silver...Wondering whether cup chassis essential or if coil overs could do the job?

The Recaros aren't bad on track but will never be as good as a bucket seat with more support. But if you're looking for something with more practicality, then they're spot on.

I'm pretty well versed on this. I went from a MK2 MX5 with coil overs, semislicks etc to a Clio 197. I run 5 or so trackdays a year and use it as a fun weekend toy.Wondering whether cup chassis essential or if coil overs could do the job?

I currently have a 197 F1 with the cup chassis and Recaros. I've found it to be really good on track, very controllable and predictable and corners pretty flat. I'd highly recommend it as it strikes the balance between usable road car and fun track car.

i'm quite looking forward to the extra challenge of a fwd on track. i've gotten used to lairy oversteer in the mx5, great fun but not always fastest way round a track. good to learn new things.
drove a Palmer Clio last week, the diff on that was not standard... batst crazy, but a lot of fun. different technique completely.
i'll skip to a 200 i think. given Ben's input, it'll be a Cup too with quicker rack and brembos.
