RE: Porsche 911 Speedster: Driven
Discussion
It sounds like quite a driving machine with the GT3 guts in it, with the weather being so fine here a scoot about in one of these seems very appealing at the moment.
I've always really liked the looks of the 991, and while I think it does look significantly better as a tin top, the somewhat hunchbacked Speedster still looks purposeful and fun.
That is quite a shocking price tag to me, but I guess it can easily be justified if they sell them all, supply and demand, etc. Plus factor in the investment aspect and perhaps the maths start to make a bit more sence for some.

Were I after a Porsche I could take the roof off of, it would still be the Boxster Spyder.
£75 K gets you 396 bhp and a car that is a much more cohesive design. It's probably not much slower either. The 991 just looks so fat and bloated. The only 911 that I've ever driven was a 1974 3.0 RS. Modern 911s just don't do it for me.

There's enough been said about the writers style by now, for me to add any more to it. Needless to say, I pretty much now just look at the pictures and read the comments when I see the writers name at the top of the article. Such a pity - so unnecessary.
You come down here to read these moaning comments? The prose may be a bit flowery at times but at least it's not bloody miserable negativity!Oily76 said:

I should say I find the Speedster incredibly attractive and I'd do terrible things to have one. The price seems sensible to me - not sure why they don't charge more for the GT cars seeing as the market clearly supports a higher valuation. j90gta said:

This may be the first/last/only time I quote Clarkson or refer to a phrase of his, such is my general distain of his opinions, but his comments about the Chrysler Crossfire Coupe looks and the reminiscence to a defecating canine could definitely be made about the monstrous and misshapen back end on the Speedster. As a former owner and lover of most things 911 this is not a win in my eyes.
