"And whereas the sound it makes is growly and even tuneful, you'll never shake the sense that an overly restrictive exhaust system is smothering the more spine-tingling notes (Tada-san himself has admitted as much, pointing to ever-stricter emissions and drive-by noise regulations)."
Still fail to understand why the manufactures are not offering warranty friendly exhaust upgrades when the car lands at the dealers? My old RS4 was an awesome car in every department bar the sound of the thing. Damn you modern Regs

Again, back to UK being mod unfriendly, but when i bought my 370Z in Singapore, I put an HKS full exhaust and intake on it without affecting the warranty. Should be a great drivers car, but I can't align myself with the styling and think it will date quickly it looks like a Z4 JDM'd to the max...with too many conflicting shapes. It's like a smorgasbord of styling Maserati, BMW, Ford Mustang et al

I was interested in this, right up until I realised they priced it against the M2 Competition. I thought it'd be 40-45k. It doesn't have enough upsides against something like the M2 in my opinion. That said they've sold out their initial 250 UK allocation so must be working well enough for them. I'm pleased it's been made but feel there's a better car in there that will come out in another 12-18 months
The modern design, diff and autobox help the new Supra off the line to improve 0-x times, but over the quarter and general rolling on times this isn't much different to any twin turbo Mkiv Supra that still left on the road.
So they haven't done a Honda or Nissan and really trumped the previous generation, but with 25 years between releases do they need to? The Mkiv was quick this is quicker just not magnitudes quicker like say the R35 vs 34 33 etc?
It might not have many innovative features and borrows lots of existing tech from another manufacturer, it might not rival the best Porsche or Ferrari performance etc can offer, but then it's more affordable and perhaps the days of chasing power is over and they deem this enough? (and really it is, very few people experience anything like the Supra's performance let alone the super/hyper car level)

I agree it's not all about power and the 0-60 stats or indeed the 'badge' etc, it is about the connection with the car, many new cars including some that are exalted on boards boast huge numbers but leave a numb feeling once the initial exhilaration of straight line speed wears off...I felt basically like the 'legal' ballast driving some of them.
In a way the styling reminds me of the Evora, not because it looks anything like it but because in pictures it has the same slightly top-heavy look. The Evora's proportions look great amongst other traffic, I wonder if this will be the same or will look just as awkward?
Mind you no amount of correcting of the proportions is going to help the detailing.

The design is growing on me - although it hurts that the FT-1 was such an epic looking thing the production version was always going to pale in comparison.
It just seems compromised compared to the competition though. In the 90s the Skyline and GTR were neck and neck for powerful, technological GT cars from Japan.
Now the GTR has nearly 600hp, trick AWD and gearbox to shock the supercar establishment, but the Supra is based on a BMW for the mid-life crisis crowd.
And you know they are holding back the state of tune and racy bits for the inevitable "Track editions" so they can stay in the news cycle.

anyone who's telling themselves it's not a BMW, especially that interior, is just lying to themselves... i'd rather have a Z4.. at least it's not pretending to be a car from the past
Another option for a 6 cylinder RWD coupe orientated around driver enjoyment ( but not too far - room to come later with the more purposeful S/competition/TRD variant).Goddamn what a bummer.

I'd rather have the Supra....As for the BMW link. An engine is an engine, especially these days with emissions regs etc, there'll be very little difference between this I6 turbo and whatever I6 turbo Toyota might have put out had they made their own. The wheelbase and track on this is all Toyota as is the styling and as for the interior, well having never owned a BMW or even sat in a new one (same for a Toyota) I don't think I'd know I was sat in something that was more BMW than Toyota.
Not sure why the hate for the BMW part.
Bmw have made many more good performance cars than toyota.
Their engines are renowned as being top drawer for the segment.
Their interiors are nicer than Toyotas - most Toyota interiors are utter ste.
Imagine if it looked like a BMW with a Toyota interior and a Toyota engine...
