Swapped one fast estate for another. Sold my F31 340i for this G21 M340i. Bit of a whim purchase, was only toying with it and noticed a dealer half a mile off my route home from a client up the other end of the country had this one in stock that was very nicely optioned and crucially had the M performance seats which are a rare option. It's one of the last pre facelift cars (pre-LCI in BMWspeak) so has the mild hybrid that does torque fill between gears but has the earlier (IMO) nicer dash.

Interesting comparison to the older car. A bit quicker in a straight line but not that much once rolling but off the line it's loads better thanks to the 4wd and the grip it finds off roundabouts etc at the moment on greasy roads compared to my old car which was RWD is quite something considering it's on summer tyres and the old car was running on Michelin Cross climates. Am toying with a gentle remap for sts and giggles and have already bought a second set of wheels to use as winters.

Ive been thinking about making the same change but straight line speed is not lacking in the F31 imo.

Are there any other factors, besides the grip you mentioned, that justify the leap?
