Young people car insurance advice, how to get it cheap(er)?
Discussion
Thought I would update this as son renewed insurance today.
he is 19yo full time student (car Not at Uni on the Isle of Wight)
Fiat Panda 1.0 2009, he now has 2 years NCD. Mum and Dad named drivers - just renewed at £286 fully comp , 4000 mile limit.
2 factors that made it cheaper today we saying it was NOT in a garage and just on the drive. Also voluntary xs redcued from £700 to £150

My second car was a '59 plate 1.1 Active Eco which was, until this year, the cheapest car I've insured. Managed to get it down to less than £500 a couple of years ago, aged 23-25 I think.
This year I've managed to insure my 2.0 Focus Ghia for just over £400 with Rooster. Cheapest quotes on comparison sites were over £800 with 3 points, no accidents/claims since I passed in 2013 and age 27!

its 1.1 . it is group one. interestingly enough Nipper has an MX5 , a 2000 NB 1.6 in the garage. the quote for this was £465 fully comp with his 2 years NCD. he is still in the Panda thoughMy second car was a '59 plate 1.1 Active Eco which was, until this year, the cheapest car I've insured. My daughter is learning to drive. I bought her a 7k Audi A1 S Line 1.6 Diesel.
Managed to get very cheap learner insurance for £340 just by using regular comparisons sites. I thought I had typed in the wrong information as I couldn't believe how cheap it was, however it's only whilst learning then need to move to normal cover. I've managed to find prices around £900 for full cover with normal excess, parked on a drive which I think is reasonable for a 17 year old.
