Great little cars, but aren't the engines a bit suspect when tuned?
Theyre a bit suspect all the time, if you want them to last realistically then they need forging especially if you drive them hard often

All the VX haters are currently forming an orderly queue and will be chiming in with their tuppence worths one by one any moment now, same as every other VX thread.
No VXR hate here, I was looking for an SRI turbo ( detuned VXR) for a family member, until I found out the road tax was more than for a Nurburgring eek.

I can't see the words "VXR" and "Nurburgring" together without being reminded of this... (And that *is* an Astra)

I remember being chased by a Corsa VXR around the top of Scotland when I was riding my Triumph Rocket 3. Although slower than the Triumph, I couldn't believe how quick it was, I pulled over in the end as I was riding well out of my comfort zone to stay ahead (especially with camping gear on the back haha).
Don't suppose this was either June 2017 or July 2018 by any chance.....?

I wouldn't say that they are suspect, its like everything on the internet that's blow out of proportion. Regular serviced and looked after examples will last. I'am on 54k on mine (bought it on 14k) and I do drive it hard, but I also let it warm and cool down, along with regular servicing. There's aslo quite a few high mileage 'Burgs out there and not to mention normal VXR's.

That is true

Thanks to the internet we know every Porsche 996 is a time bomb with a waiting bill for 10k engine rebuild from faulty RMS/IMS bearing failure
...although in reality there are plenty that have escaped

I'd be very surprised if I couldn't corner much faster than of those in a sorted 205 bhp hot hatch.

But that above example looks a little OTT with the add on skirts etc. You can get lower, complete standard examples for that price.
Agreed. I loved my Mrs’ when I had an Astra VXR (non-Nurburgring edition) at the same time.

Ours was totally standard and was a superb little car - often used to steal it for work or nipping to the shops!

You'd definitely be able to corner quicker but the Rocket was brilliant at point n squirt, the acceleration was phenomenal but I didn't pull away from the VXR as quickly as I thought I should have (don't know if it was a tuned version though).
