Hi all

Just changed my dash over last week and I have noticed that the red battery light is on dimly when the ignition is off but goes out when ignition is on, anyone have any ideas why this is.

Many thanks

Try disconnecting the brown/yellow wire at the alternator. If the light goes out use a multimeter and see if there is a voltage on the terminal you just disconnected the wire from. If there is then the alternator has a fault.

As you have just removed the dashboard you may have transposed the two wires (as I did) to the warning light. Leds are polarity sensitive and can do strange things when connected incorrectly.

I’ve put new leds in the heater but the battery light is not led

From your previous post do you still have the dash top open?
If so, then take the bulb out and test with your meter which connection has a voltage on it. I think you have some wires crossed somewhere as with the ignition off there should be no volts on either side of the bulb.

Thanks Steve, It’s just starting to rain here now so will take a look once stopped, when I swapped dials over from the old dash to the new one I done it one at a time on the dining table, my heater light also done the same but put a new hazard light switch in and that cured that problem, I will have to recheck photos of the wiring I took when swapping them over

My '97 car had an led, the top one of the three between speedo and rev counter. Perhaps you mean the one actually in the speedo next to the oil light?

Hi , yes that’s the one I’m on about, the one with the battery symbol on it
