Same with all the German brands really, including Porsche, used to see a Porsche occasionally, now see them absolutely everywhere, a lot of tarted up VAG stuff isnt it really ?
So which 911 is a tarted up VAG?
Or Cayman or Boxster, perhaps the new Panamera as that's just a Bentley GT in drag...Oh.

The holder of the well tarred brush would point out that the 911 is just a posh beetle

Exactly. And quoting Porsche as ‘reliable’ is hardly a position of strength rofl

Strange view bearing in mind they were the only manufacturer along with Lexus and Toyota scoring 100% in the 2019 JDP surveys.
I struggle to see how they can get a ‘true’ 100% when there’re plenty of recalls between them. Maybe they issue all owners with rose-tints wink
They scored 108 problems per 100 vehicles.

Let's not mention the bore scoring etc of the 6 pots. Nice cars but woefully engineered in that period.
Amazing how much things improve over 14 years
I defo need some of your rose tints rofl

Popped into bmw at the weekend and we noticed a brand new delivery miles standard M4 with over £17k knocked off.

£17k!

WTF is it with modern bmw pricing? Every car seems to be at least 20% overpriced so they can knock huge numbers off to get you a “deal”. Do people really fall for it?
I got 35% off a pre reg 340i (4 miles on the clock)..fully loaded. Appreciate it was end of line before the G20 but confirms that BMW pricing is a joke.
Similar story here - there have been some crazy deals on the M140i (knocking about 25% off new). I got an ex-BMW one 3 months old with 4,000 miles on the clock - 37% off.

Pre reg / lightly used are always a good bet. Not just from BMW. I always but my work cars that way.

Long for the days when you could get the big engines in SE spec. The M-Sport styling is very overt and often inelegant. A 550i with sports suspension, but the quieter bodywork would be a wonderful sleeper indeed.

Often now the M Sport suspension is also way too stiff.
You can get a 540i, 440i or 340i in SE so it is still possible.

I'm fairly sure you can opt for "M Sport suspension delete" and get SE spec suspension, although I may be wrong.

Possibly
All I do is leave it is comfort suspension setting all the time
The new Alpina B5 adds a extra comfort mode over the BMW settings and apparently works really well

I think there is also a slight problem in the UK at the moment in terms of shifting stock. Buyers have absolutely fallen off a cliff for the performance stuff. BMW aren’t alone in absolutely slashing prices behind the scenes just to keep revenue coming in and worrying about any profits later.

I’ve recently become quite interested in the 140i as I’m thinking of reverting to a sensible runabout and the performance seems mind boggling v economy.

Any idea why the 3 series with the same engine has lower output figures?

Interesting, why would that be? Are the shells that different that the mounting points are not the same?

I'd have assumed the only real differences would be spring/damping rates, if the rear axle had a higher SWL on the estate than the saloon?
The touring has air suspension at the rear, which the saloon doesn't

Ah, so the pick up points are all different, load paths are different etc.

Thanks smile

Having only seen them in M-Sport, I was of the impression they'd started to limit them to that trim only. 15 years ago when I would be glued to the configurator, I would have known the ins and outs of BMW's proverbial.

Nope, you can buy "SE" spec. You can have the best of both worlds....M Sport looks with SE suspension smile

They're also desperately trying to shift 1 Series stock before the new model hits the showrooms Ina few months.

I agree the performance £30-50k market must be tough right now; it's much higher volume than the £75k+ "sports" market. In uncertain economic conditions cash buyers might just hold off the next purchase for a few months, those rolling over a PCP/lease might be tempted to be more conservative and get a non-perf model.

Would recommend the 140. It's mighty quick for a little runabout. Adaptive suspension desireable if you can
