My wife drives at the weekend. I drive a lot more than her during the week and I'm quite happy to be a passenger. Plus at the weekend we use her car because it's far nicer than mine and because she drives it all the time and I rarely drive it, she's just better at it, and it's all set up for her.

It helps that she's an excellent driver. Might be different if she was crap.

I prefer to be a passenger unless it's a country road at 2am or Silverstone. wink

My other half doesn't have a licence and doesn't drive. I do all the driving, and that suits me just fine. smile

When we're together in the car, i will drive 99% of the time, only exception is if ive had a drink and my wife drives home.

Wife doesnt even have a car any more, she normally gets the train to work, i do station drop off. She will occassionally borrow it if she needs to pop to pilates, but other than that its fine.

No need to swap drivers on long drives either, 3 series + cruise control makes for relaxed motorway driving.

We share the driving - it's only fair.

I drive to the pub or restaurant, she drives back... smile

My wife "I don't drive at the weekend". She doesn't mind it, and does a fair bit for her work during the week, but I'm a terrible passenger (apparently) and I'm quite happy to do it. We generally use her XC60 too as the kids seats are permanently set up in there for the nursery run.

Generally I drive at weekend as I try to exercise various parts of my car collection all of which my wife doesn’t like driving so usually me in the drivers seat.

Although she did drive the Westfield back from her mums after the father in law brought out the beers an curry house menu ! She can when she wants, she actually enjoyed the drive ( will have to hide the keys from now on)

I always tend to drive, but I prefer to drive and don't think much of her driving.

Driving isn't always fun or a pleasure is it? Perhaps she doesn't like driving that much, or him driving would allow her to get stuff done on her phone?
This. My girlfriend hates driving (not helped by her trying to overtake a HGV six months after passing when another was coming and having a head on!). Whilst she is perfectly safe and competent at driving, if we are going somewhere together I will drive. I love driving, even if its a short drive to Tesco. We live a hour away from each other, I'll often drive to hers on Saturday, we'll come back to mine for the weekend and go back to hers on Sunday evening and I'll come back Monday when she goes to work. Helps massively that there are some great roads on the way...don't tell her thats the main reason I do it!

Same with my parents, my mum doesn't like driving, doesn't get any pleasure out of it, but my step dad does, so he'll do most the driving when they are out together.

I do most if not all of the driving when we're together; regardless of which car we use. This is mostly because, although she likes driving, Mrs cmvtec is absolutely terrible at it. She's not had a bump but I believe this only to be pure luck and other drivers paying attention. Too confident, too fast, too aggressive and completely unable to see she's done something wrong.

She is really bad in her car, but more cautious in mine as she's not really used to an auto, or a car that's quite so large.

We drove from South Shields to Aberdeen and back at the weekend, in my car. I was physically exhausted on the return and we switched seats somewhere near Jedburgh. She did mostly OK, but there's a roundabout directly out of Newcastle airport that she completely straightlined, then complained when a car pulled out:

"That effing Peugeot just pulled out in front of me!"

"In fairness, you were in all three lanes, and when she pulled out you were in the lane to take the first exit"

"Shut up, she pulled out on me".

In addition, I don't drink and she does, so on weekends that's why I tend to find myself driving.

My ex was one of the best drivers I've ever been in the car with, so it isn't sexism, I just value my life.

Every morning without fail, the entire drop off lane at my rail station is blocked for three minutes whilst one commuter exist the car in the middle of the roadway whilst they swap seats, get bags form the boot and the wife adjusts the seats and all the mirrors.

If they drove to the far end of the slip lane it wouldn't be so bad, but they park right next to the doors and cause a tailback on the main road of people trying to turn in.

The guy is a real Brad like idiot, if he doesn't realise.

But, people are too polite to say anything, do they carry on as if its acceptable.

Like many others, I drive 99% of the time and like many others it's not a control nor sexism thing. When we met, she had an Up! so we generally used my car for joint ventures and the like. Then fast forward a bit and a baby arrived and as we man are to just get on with life, ie going back to work soon after, in turn i found I was more focused on driving when he cried and she was better at fussing over him... so I drove and that's pretty much stuck as it's rare we're ever in the car together, without him. She has driven a few times but I'm also a rather nervous passenger and find myself either in full on diagnostic mode listening for any clunks or rattles or I'm gritting my teeth as she's a good driver, quick... but not that smooth. She also knows this so just finds it altogether better when I drive and she points to pretty things 5 minutes after we pass them then gets annoyed that I'm not paying attention... my bad.
