I have driven quite a few Audis, including an RS3 on track. The Golf ain't bad but the Civic and previous Meg are on a different level.

Audi just seem incapable or unwilling to produce a properly decent driver's car (the R8 being best of a bad bunch).

But they know their customers and money talks after all...

As I said, if you like it then go ahead and enjoy. But not a car I would recommend anyone actually pay money for if they like driving.
It isn't a track car so what is the relevance of that? Having owned one for 2.5 years and 44k miles I can tell you it is an amazing road car.

TX.
For me, any car that has all the steering feel and precision of an oil tanker can never be an "amazing road car".

I thought it was absymal on road. And even worse on track.

Whist I appreciate it is not a track car, it should be able to do the odd track day eg the M2 without falling apart.

This says it all. Nothing more needed.

Who gives a st about how a car drives eh? Bloody driving Gods on this site ruining it for the rest of us. Those sad fkers.
I’m not a driving god but when I get out of a car I want to be proud of owning it and thinking it looks nice and when I get in it I want it to be a nice place to be !

If you buy a car just for handling then yeah fair enough but as someone else said you’re not driving Monaco you’re trundling along on A roads B roads and motorways! Handling doesn’t come into it! The RS3 isn’t a track car as someone else said but it’s a bloody amazing road car! If you want a car that handles and for track you buy a car for that

I'll tell you what's definitely duller than this 400bhp Audi - the rush for everybody to get in there first and demonstrate their DRIVING PROWESS by totally dismissing it as boring (despite most probably having never driven it). Me pistonheads man, me drive difficult fast car that crash more easy, me real man.

The world is heading to battery power and you have a 400bhp petrol hatchback here that sounds incredible - get over yourselves
Couldn't agree more!

It seems a common trend on PH nowadays that whatever the first couple of comments are sets the trend and the sheep follow.

Would love to own this or a 8v anytime!

Surely you would pick a track which played to the cars strenghts and once their drive around any perceived weakness. I would have thought that on a F1 power track like spa it would be awesome. If it under steers then slow in and fast out of the corners?

Great car with one of the best engines money can buy. Does everything well, has extremely high limits and very few things faster point to point.

Comments calling the car bad are just utterly laughable, and if it's understeering on a dry road you don't know how to drive.

Only negative for me is to get the absolute most out of the car you have to be pushing it hard, and doing that means you're driving at mental speeds for public roads.

Its a hell of an all rounder and I think they look good, its what Audi are good at, but at the end of the day its a hatchback so of course it isnt really going to compete on an equal footing with dedicate Sports Cars.

Its a feel good car for relatively well heeled private buyers, but it has a strong "following" from YouTube Bloggers and car thieves, its like their perfect target, like an S3/Golf R is but more so, probably best avoided if near large towns or cities with a car crime issue.

As a quick, nicely finished, all weather daily I cant think of anything better, I consider one but the scummer following puts me right off.

Not sure why anyone would call something like that "st", if its not to your taste just say so, and why.

If you have a momentum car, such as a 205 GTI or the previous Swift Sport for example, then handling balance and being able to keep it in its sweet spot is a vital ingredient for fast road driving. If you have a thumping great turbo, the fun comes from letting the boost come in and using it in quick bursts between corners, or stretching its legs on straights.

As a previously staunch NA advocate, just one week in a turbo has altered my view. An A4 cabriolet sure isn't a driver's car, but the 2.0TFSI makes fun noises and joins up b-roads quickly enough. I expect an Audi 5-pot with twice the power provides plenty of amusement. I'd have mine in the saloon, though. The current A3 saloon has that classic Audi profile, lost after the B5, IMO.

Big difference between having a different opinion and calling a car st when it clearly isn't

Very much this^^^^ I know someone that has one, and it does most things very well. But after owning a Cosworth in the 90's, I'm not keen to attract the attention of thieving scumbags again.

It's just like any other vag product and everyone has one. A big issue is the Audi badge with the stigma which goes with it.
Years back owning an Audi was something different and special, now with them flowing out of main dealers the badge has all the appeal of a particularly large turd blocking the U bend and the S3 being worse with with its chavvy council estate type owners (hirers)..

Never driven one, but it does have one of the best sounding engines around at the moment. There's a chap a couple of roads away who has one, and frequently guns it hard out of the town along the NSL straight a hundred yards or so from my house. It sounds like a Group B Quattro. Wonderful noise.

Quite.

For someone who proclaims to be an all our car fanatic I do find his posts very odd.

Of course Audi (RS3) cars are not track day heroes but they certainly are not ste.

I don't agree with TX about the trolling , it's Sids opinion.
I do agree, with TX, they are fantastic cars.

( Owner of an S3, heading towards an RS3 as a very capable small family hatchback. I'll keep my Evo for the real fun).

Haven’t read whole thread, but curious - why would you have one of these over an M2 Comp?

Other than the engine, this doesn’t have anything at all of interest to me.
Audi have, over the last couple of years, really lost their way, this is a further example of that.

Agree very much - I see a saloon one most mornings and it sounds fantastic to my ears

4wd and the ability to fit 5 in comfort!

I’ve tried to get my kids in Recaro car seats in the back of an m2 there’s no room or not much of it anyway

Fantastic cars. I swapped my M3 for an 8v S3 5 years ago..... hated S3 for good 6 months but now love it, only car I’ve kept for more than 18 months. Would have RS3 but don’t feel premium over s3 is worth it... yet.
The handling is far from dull- just high limits. Hustled round a track it’s superb. I’m glad Audi don’t listen to journalists or indeed some people on here! Formula is great.
On the upside at least no one is holding gun to your head forcing you to buy an RS3... some people need to chill out a little and buy usual PH pleasers MX5, 911, M2 .... although none of those handle as well as an Alpine which never seems to get mentioned when slagging off other cars?!
