Some photos I thought worth sharing... the last one with Niki holding a pig's ear relates to a story someone posted in the F1 thread where he was at the site of his accident in '76, 'looking for his ear', which was typical of his sense of humour...

Brilliant post, fabulous pictures.

That Sun article is really good, well worth reading!!
Indeed, brought a tear to my eye...a very good write up of his history and legacy. Total shock to hear of his death, so used to seeing and hearing him during F1 interviews and walkabouts. Loved the film Rush being an F1 fan; whether it was factually correct throughout, I do not know, but it was very enjoyable. It strikes me that Niki was a true gent from an era of racing where the drivers didn’t only drive, but understood how to improve their cars and set them up properly using their senses. Not sure how many of the modern drivers could do it as well as he did. A true inspiration as a driver and a person. As someone else has said, “taken too soon”. RIP and thank you, Mr Lauda..

" Hunt vs Lauda: F1's Greatest Rivalries" is being shown on Saturday 8th at 21:10 on BBC 2. Although it's been on a few times previously, it's still a good watch.

An Email from Motor Sport magazine mentioned their 2014 Legends article by Nigel Roebuck on Gilles Villeneuve. It mentions the 1978 and 1979 GPs at Montreal. I thought I'd check out the footage of the 1979 GP and came across this BBC coverage that starts with Murray Walker talking about Lauda announcing his retirement and includes footage of Lauda collecting a BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award for 1977:
