The SQ5 has been diesel for 6 years, the SQ7 for 3. It was inevitable.
Essentially tractors though so not performance cars.

It's a nice looking motor in estate form and a perfect upgarde for my Bitdi as an A6, but its no S car, and from the pictures on the net they have gone overboard on this fake tail pipe trend that all manufactures seem to be adopting, the 4 pipes on the back are just stuck on blank tubes FFS!!

Yep it has 4 fake exhaust tips, wanted to keep with the tradition but decided to block them off, no idea why.

Just read that Audi are contemplating ending production of the r8 and TT to instead focus resources on a 2025 target of 20 fully electric models

CEO quoted as saying they are “shredding old baggage”

Could it be that Audi will become the fully electric brand of the VW group?

What is a "performance car"? If by that you mean speed, and ability to carry speed, then they'll keep up with most things on public roads that you might care to mention apart from exotica.

Aside from the fact that the comment was about S cars being diesel, which as I pointed out, is not a new thing...

An SQ5 or 7 is 'essentially a tractor'?

This place is not what I was expecting.

A/S7 is a coupe. A/S6 is saloon/estate - just like A4 vs A5.

Some people just want a coupe. I have no idea why. smile
This is what confused me was the A5 was going to be a 2 door version of the A4, then they made a 4 door A5? I DUNNY UNDERSTAND!?
Well they are all at it. 4 series GC - 4 door version of 2 door version of 4 door

6GT - similar size platform of a 7 series with interior from a 5 series which is mirrored to a 6 series with 2 less doors and then they put 2 more doors on it and a hatchback boot but didn't base it off the 5 series instead off the larger 7 series but it's actually a 6 series which is a bigger 5 series and then also made 6GC

CLS, A class saloon etc etc....

So many models, so many niches. Better design and manufacturing and platform sharing makes all sorts of things possible. Naming traditions of old just can't cope. See also this weird Audi 30,40,50 power bracket model naming thing. Engine capacity doesn't work as a model indicator any more, when half the fleet are downsizing to smaller displacement with forced induction, and the other half have batteries.

It must be a headache for the marketing teams to have to tie in to the old, familiar naming conventions, but also work towards the future of multi-niche platforms and weird engine choices. Perhaps as the number of niche models tends towards infinity, they should just ditch it all and we'll just use the VIN instead.

Still, I'm glad we have so much choice.

But with all these weird choices possible, it makes me wonder how hard it would really have been to offer both petrol and diesel options for the Ses?

Presumably dead easy, which means it must have been a very, very deliberate choice not to.

It must just be trying to create a bigger gap up to the RS. After all, much of the difference between a S6 and an RS6 is a £300 remap these days.

No, they're not. Have you driven an SQ5 or SQ7?

Have you ever driven a tractor?

I have, and you know what they have in common? The square root of fk all laugh

This,

How many S model cars do you see compared to RS model cars? I see a lot more S model cars for sure and as you say, a remap will bridge quite a lot of the power difference.

Is that the new S6?
Earlier S6 spy shots do show all four being fake. Either that or the engine emits snow...

Well if it was tested on the Ring, Germany was snowing last month so probably came from snow lying on the inside of the tips as they are fake.

Not this. There's generally more than just power as the difference between the cars. B7 RS4 was great, the V8 S5 was incredibly boring from my experiences.

Would anyone take this over an Alpina Bi-turbo though?
I certainly wouldn't, but Alpina do diesels too though. And the corresponding petrol Alpina (B5) is £100k!

The current A6 interior is among the nicest fitted to a mass produced car at the moment, IMO. A colleague has a normal A6 diesel, and it feels superb just to sit in.

Certainly not true of S6 vs RS6. RS6 outsells S6 by a huge margin. (currently 48 approved used RS6 listed, 2 S6 avants and 5 saloons...)

S4 and S5 "sales" have benefited from ultra-cheap PCH deals over the last couple of years.

I don't think I have seen any S6's on the road but I have seen plenty of RS6's so you are right there but I was more going to the S3, S4 and S5 with my comment.
