True, but visually this car is the equivalent of mouthwash flavour ice cream, shake 'n' vac flavour crisps, and trying to bend it round and stuff it into your own bum.
Visually, perhaps yes. However, while a Golf R/S3/Leon Cupra would take you out for a decent meal, offer you acceptable company and a nice glass of wine, before making sure you were dropped safely home by 11pm, the Civic would be pouring Jaeger bombs and tequila down your throat in Wetherspoons, have you dancing on the bar of a dingy nightclub with a sticky floor, before helping you to stuff a dirty kebab, persuading you to crash a random house party, videoing you snorting coke off a hooker's arse, then drawing penises on your face with a permanent marker after you've passed out.
One offers quite a pleasant, but ultimately forgettable evening, while the other is one you'll remember 25 years later. I spent a year driving a respectable German hot hatch and, while it was very good, it's not the car I'd be telling my grand kids about.

Is this an optional extra on the Honda? This is a nice looking car though.
Yes, should go well with your dark glasses, white stick and dogIt would be a boring world if we all stuck to vanilla ice cream, ready salted crisps and the missionary position though.

Quite simply this. I understand I’m in the minority at liking it, & it shouldn’t appeal to me, but to those who haven’t driven one test it then come back with what you think. The looks might not have grown on you but no petrolhead will come away disappointed. And I’m comparing it to stuff from classes above. So they're both a pretty generic nightout, just one's for when your 20 and the other's for when your 40? I'd buy you a Lion bar if you went in to your local dealer and asked.dunnoreally said:

Well, I suppose 40 year olds are probably more likely to be able to afford coke? You know something guys, I 've had a pretty big collection of great performance cars over the years but I get nothing but positive, sometimes
gushing appreciation of my FK8
I know what those that don't like it mean but it looks special.
It does make me laugh when proponents of Golf Rs or M140i sneer. They look just like thousands of cooking diesel versions of their respective ranges. You need to be pretty clued up to know it's actually the quick one.
Just been buzzed along a favourite but busy bit of "A" road by a guy in Golf R who wanted to "play" - But in the low sun I honestly mistook it for a TDi
But if it was a quiet early morning I know which car I'd prefer to be in

I love it and I’m currently in negotiations with a dealer, will be putting a deposit down as soon as a part ex price on my car is agreed, 2 extended test drives later, I’m itching to get into it. I originally wanted a black one but decided to go for the championship white, pictures don’t do this car justice, in the flesh, it’s an absolute beast!gushing appreciation of my FK8

I completely agree re the M140i’s and Golf R’s, I kept going back to the M140i’s as they’re actually cheaper with lower miles and newer but there’s just so many of them on the road, they have a special engine but they’re just not special. To me, the FK8 is what a hot hatch SHOULD look like.
The only 2 things I didn’t like was the lack of drama from exhaust on downshifts and up shifts and the sound system, very poor considering it’s an 11 speaker upgraded system.
I keep looking on YouTube for different exhaust set ups and none of them sound that nice, or that much better than standard to warrant the money!

Having owned a M135i and now a tweaked Megane RS250 Cup, despite occupying a similar 'mid-sized hatch' market (the BMW being more expensive obvs because it was newer), they are very different. I think if the M1xx as a compact 'GT Hatch' for which it was pretty awesome. The Megane (and in this case, the Civic) wipes the floor with regards driving dynamics, and quicker over a challenging road, and is a hot hatch in the traditional sense of the term..
Article says: Most notably, it has modified the ECU (Superchips), the induction system (ITG), intercooler (PWR, sports cat (Dream) and exhaust (Scorpion), yielding a claimed 25 per cent improvement in performance"
What I find sad is that PH members see this list of parts and still waffle on about Halfords specials. I think those of you who can't appreciate modified cars should pipe down and go and read a thread about a something else.
