Various tuners have dropped performance engines into the 124 over the years from the factory spec 500E / E500, E36 AMG to whizz-bang V12 specials. Plenty of scope for tuning.

This one looks particularly tasty - 528bhp and 730nm from the AMG tuned 7.3 V12 which saw service in the Zonda.

On the plus side, at least the 200 allows you to step inside the engine compartment for easier servicing/repair accessbiggrin

Having been to Beirut a couple of times recently, sadly you don't see many. Quite a few Renault 12s though which may seem counterintuitive!

Great pic. Decent spec on that one?

My mate's one has the sunroof, headlamp washers, 7 seats and some other toys.

The interior is time warp. Still perfectly screwed together after 23 years and 170k miles.

No squeaks, no rattles, nothing.

Good shed this week. I notice the tow bar and I'm wondering just how slow this would be full of aging swingers towing a double axle caravan.
If it isn't fast enough for you, it won't be too difficult for you to sell it on for about the same price

Renault 12 had an extended life (to 2000) under licence in Turkey as the Renault Toros so I suppose they may have drifted south subsequently?

I'm currently near Cannes with that very car - starting the drive back to the UK tomorrow.

It's very tight, very comfortable, and pretty well-specced - cruise, heated seats, electric windows, 7 seats. It's also extremely well looked after, and you'd never guess it's done 387k. Have a look at r129sl to see just how detailed & extreme his work on this car has been.

It's an incredible machine.

I had an E220 W124. Poverty spec - well made and super comfortable.

Personally I wouldn't want a 6 cylinder as I thought the 4 banger, little wheels and auto box suited the car perfectly.

No toys, just a well made, unpretentious machine. And of course it was pretty economical too.

I love mine, and in particular the 6 cylinder engines. I drove 380 miles in my 320 yesterday, and had a pretty 100 mile quick drive today to get to a destination along A and B roads. I made the most of the 320!

Picking up our 'new' E300TE multivalve this afternoon, quite excited. Think it may need new glowplugs and at some point a new n/s front wing but otherwise lovely.

I know it's a cliche but they do give the impression of having great rigidity. Maybe it's partly because of the way the interior is so well put together and the general insulation from the outside world.

I once drove a contemporary Granada Sapphire Cosworth. The oily bits were fine but the interior looked a sample sale from World of Leather and there was a cacophony of squeaks, rattles and and chirps as it went down the road. It was shedding its interior like a snakes sheds its skin.

Really? I considered the wept space amazing, even at today's standard...
Funny how such a picture can take you back to your youth, of being amazed by the funny pattern the wiper left and asking my dad why. Once I knew about the single-wiper, I was always watching it. nerd
His 250TD was gutless however, but always thought it was amazing and built like a tank, was sad when that departed us for a crappy company car...

r129sl is the forum God of old mercs. An incredibly knowledgable and useful chap. Sometimes I post just knowing he will be the one to answer with the perfect response. For example on my w124 thread regarding a suspension refresh - last but one post here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

He does mega miles and has the W124 above which drives really nicely (he was kind enough to let me have a go). The famous titivation thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

And has also put serious miles on an r129 SL. Can't find the thread.

And has a spartan MB 190. Here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I hope that was of help!
