RE: BMW lifts the lid on new 625hp M8 Competition
Discussion
An RS5 wouldn't see which way one of these went above 60mph, don't see the comparison. As a sportier S63 it makes sense, but with that interior its a 90k car really - cant compete on ambience. wouldn't compare it to a 911
A 640d is so capable these days money is better spent on one of those and the chance on a weekend toy. Or if its a luxurious interior you want get an alpina

20%+++ discounts within 12-24 month which was the norm for the previous 6 series and will be for this 8 (6) series.
Epic car though, but I still don't understand why it has rear seats. They were hard enough to use in the 6er and it this car they are even tighter!!
Would MUCH prefer an S63 AMG for the interior and much better V8.

Can I just ask those who are saying this is a 6 series, why this 8 series is any less of an 8 series than the last (E31) 8 series?
For me personally the old 8 series looked a very special car and it was very different to the rest of the BMW range. I've had a F13 640d and this new 8 series just reminds me of that both inside and out(nothing wrong with that though). This new 8 series just doesn't seem quite special enough for the money for me, and the old 8 series has possibly got my hopes up a little too much(not that I'd say no to this new one though!).

Looks nothing like a 6, which in itself was a lovely looking thing.
The 8 just stands out more. And that's a "normal" 8 I've seen.
The M version will, like the M3/4 be more snarly and lairy.

I just find it laughable that BMW have put the 6 series badge to the monstrosity that was the old 5 series GT now. Sacrilege for me. In my ideal world this 8 would be a 6 and the 8 would be something truly desirable like the old 8 series(although that didn't sell well so I can see why BMW have gone in this direction in fairness).

The whole E31 8 series was a sales disaster. Not sure why, probably cost. Yes, the "proper" 8 series that everyone on here seems to fawn over on any new 8 series thread was a sales flop.
Go figure.
I was mentioning the CSi, as you were, built for only three years due to emissions regs. It was very overpriced, costing 80 grand or so in 1993. That's about 150 grand in todays money and there weren't any PCP deals for the fur coat and no knickers brigade.Go figure.
You've probably not driven an 850CSi.............?

Much alike the latest M5 Competition, this will be massively underrated but a properly fantastic car to run day to day. Great looks, abundant usable power, coupe/convertible options... the only thing not to like is the price. But as always with these types of cars, it'll be half price in 3 years time and hardly ran in!
M5 may be many things but it is not underratedAgree Shiv - we all rate M5's. Quality. This one though:
Angry Birds face + a Nicki Minaj bottom that's had a few 'upgrades' from Kahn (and I don't mean that mayor Mr President)j!
I love it - other than the huge price tag. You can get far more exclusive marques/heritage/provenance for that huge money - expect 20% off minimum after a few months too + heartbreaking residuals. Nice effort though and some people prefer 'safer' marques

No I haven't. Doesn't mean it was a sales success because I didn't drive it though, or even because of emission regs. in the 3 years it was for sale, it was still a sales flop, and no amount of rose-tint in anyone's spectacles can change that.
How many CSi's were sold out of interest?I think this looks good overall, the shape has a muscular look. It does have a bit of a generic modern BMW look though, which doesn't make it appear to stand out as something different or special to me, considering the £120k+ price.
Also the interior looks nice and reasonably tasteful, but again it doesn't grab me as being that special for the money. I don't mind the satin blue but I associate that with an aftermarket wrap type look.
It does seem an impressive car in many way but it's not something I find myself particularly excited by. Maybe in future if they depreciate like a stone then...

99% of cars depreciate so this isn't really a surprise?
TX.
Point well made, but losing £5k on a £10k car after a few years is more palatable shall we say than losing £60k on a £120k motor, even if you can afford it!TX.

True but people are buying £120k motors so I guess aren't that worried about "losing" £60k. Surely just the cost of owning a "nice" car if you want it from new. Savvy buyers buying after 3 years at 50% of the original cost but even then at £60k you will still lose a lot of money in depreciation.
TX.
BMW's depreciation right now is terrible - brand new M5 Comp in Leeds for sale with an individual colour and £31k off list with 0%APR... insane.TX.
