RE: BMW lifts the lid on new 625hp M8 Competition
Discussion
I personally really like the shape of this 8 series and the F13 6 series was the best looking(for me) BMW I've had. The heavy kerbweight and excessive performance of this leans me to wonder how much fun it actually is.
Owners of the previous M6 on here have always said how great they are to drive/hide their weight/use on a track...so I'd love a go in one to see.

Because it looks slightly redolent of the current Mustang in profile doesn't mean a Mustang is a suitable alternative, nothing wrong with the Mustang but dont think the potential owners think sod spending all that,t he clever money is on a Ford that looks a bit the same if you squint.
They will sell very few at 123 grand, always ends up with big discounts as when you are into 100k plus, you are in a much more rarefied world, its a nice thing but I would be nipping over to Porsche to see what they can do that doesnt put me in mind of an M240i thats been on steroids, with a hint of Mustang, its all too familiar but scaled up.
It will be very fast and lovely to be in, but those with that kind of budget want a bit more, Bentley was mentioned and you arent quite in that price bracket, 50 grand short but I am sure the figures can be made to work via the magic of finance.
A few will trickle through but it will be BMW themselves having their high ups using them for a few months and then putting them into their used stock, the odd lease and PCP deal, cant see many folk arriving with a bag for life full of cash and paying list. And after a month or two, what kind of discounts, suspect they will sell a few if they are nearer 90 grand.
It will plummet in value, big BMW's always do pretty much.

That interior looks decidedly bland for a £123k car.
I'm not sure what to thinkhttps://www.netcarshow.com/bmw/2020-m8_competition...
That's it in higher res. It's got all the high end tech there, and "bland" could be turned to be "less cluttered". I think it depends on how all the materials feel, and how different it feels to a 3 series. My old 7 series, whilst similar in many ways to the later E90 3 series, it felt a world away in terms of quality of materials and just being a nice place to spend time.
I must admit, if I wanted a big GT car, I think I'd prefer an S63 AMG coupe. I think Aston running costs will be a fair chunk higher, and people saying about the cost and depreciation are seemingly forgetting they'll almost certainly be on lease deals and be a fair bit cheaper than the £123k price tag would lead you to believe.

Having driven an M6 in multiple occasions I'd say it's a very, very competent GT car. It's not a fun sports car though. If you think of it as a rival to cars like the S63 etc then the M6 was good, but a rival to a small 2 seater sports car it ain't. And, in my opinion, all the better for it. It was a wonderful long distance car. Quiet, pretty comfortable, interior was nice (especially with the leather dash) and really fast. It was, however, extremely dull for a 560bhp car. I use that in the loosest possible term, it's far from being as dull as a Yaris, but it never was exciting compared to other cars. 3 series interior
Pretty similar to 8 series. The dash screen is same, vents, centre console is similar etc. It's a pretty pathetic effort IMO in classic BMW interior fashion. CTRL C CTRL V better materials done.

On the topic of the 8 series, every single one I see has a reg that starts with ‘Y’, means it’s a BMW UK car, Still haven’t seen one with a reg other than Y, I think BMW are struggling to sell these.
No it doesn’t... any car registered pretty much anywhere in Yorkshire will have a Y prefix, BMW or not, private car or not.Edited by Chestrockwell on Wednesday 5th June 01:44

Not being funny and I hate to be that guy, and it’s difficult to say this as I’m a life long BMW fan and love a good barge...BUT, after the amount of fun I’m having in my 24k 316bhp FWD Civic Type R, I look at cars like these and feel nothing anymore, 100k + (let’s be honest, nobody will pay list for one of these) 625 bhp, over 2 tonnes, what’s the point, it won’t even be fun to drive!
If I had the means or if my numbers came up, I’d definitely buy the 8 series as I’m a fan of its looks and imagine it would make a lovely long distance cruiser but I’d spend half the money and get the diesel model, no point in making a big car like that sporty. You wouldn’t have heard me say this 2 weeks ago when I had my 4 series.

Similar boat here, except I took a Jcw over the type r. If the point of the m8 is to be luxury, they missed the mark on styling and interior. It’s a mustang with a bmw grille, a z4/supra rear end. It is not a 123k car, no bmw is a six figure car. At that price range you want an interior that’s not as bland as that.
Handsome brute. I’d have one if I had that kind of money to spend on a car. And if I had that kind of money to spend on a car, I’d also be likely to have plenty more to spend on all the other cars that folk are no doubt recommending as better/cheaper alternatives. Something like this would just be the daily runaround
