Great just what we need yet another SUV shortly to be seen outside a school parked across the pavement or blocking a country lane to save the tyres getting dirty.
Get a new cliché.

Svo = stick the old v8 into it operation.

The world doesn't need this.
The world doesn't need most desirable cars. It is all about want.

If I was changing my car this year, this would be near the top of the queue.

The exhausts are somewhat oversized, look out of proportion.

Put the V8 in a car body please then lets talk, lets not kid ourslves this will be doing any off-roading - so why bother?
Why post?
Why mention off-road ability?
Why whinge?

Well, I found Nic's story eminently readable. Agree about the exhausts though, all it needed was four simple (but big) circular tailpipes.

Still got the Jimmy Hill chin though. Not a fan of the Velar shape at all.

Not for me, although I am quite taken with the seat design.

Strikes me as one of those cars that looks better in the metal than on the screen, although I do wonder whether JLR hasn't pulled and pushed the basic Evoque/Velar look a bit too much. There's maybe not enough distinction between models.

SUV are not really on my radar but the Velar is one of the best looking and with a big rude V8 in it, can certainly see the appeal.

And give over with the school run comments, just makes you look like you dont have much of an imagination and are a bit jealous, people have to take kids to school and guess what, they will use whatever car they own to do it !

I love it. Not as in your face as the RR Sport SVR.

And apart from the full fat Range, I think it's the best looking product LR currently sell.

Wasn't the 'Edition One' Velar this sort of money when it was released, and that only had a 4 pot?

First editions were all 3 litre and heavily optioned as standard.

Not seeing it as an option on the configurator unfortunately, as it's definitely what I would do.

On the right wheels (sadly it needs the big ones) and in the right colour (Byron Blue - satin if you're feeling flush) these things just look magnificent. An SUV I'd be delighted to own and drive. The SVR bits look nice (embarrassing exhausts aside) but they're not really necessary. Which leaves the engine. I'm sure it goes like stink and makes a wonderful noise and I'm glad it exists. But however minted I became I'd struggle to justify this over a V6 D300.

I get the feeling with JLR that the left hand isn't talking to the right hand. Where's the Velar with iPace running gear? 0-60 4.5 seconds, 200+ mile real world range. 0g/km C02. There's a Velar that would sell like hot cakes.

With Black Pipes you could get away with this looking quite standard.

500+BHP in a good looking not oversized 4x4, works well

Just a tad steep on price (near 90K) maybe makes the upgrade to Sport SVR the typical buyers route... Below this surely many would be buying the £30K cheaper alternatives like the 43AMG GLC's etc.

Can't see many buying this instead of the Sport SVR

Lovely.

Got given one of the higher-powered diesels whilst the Disco Sport was in for its second DPF the other month
Should have bought the petrol one. They're rare as hens teeth but so much better to drive.

Totally not needed in these days of congestion and low speed limits.
As for those exhausts, instead of hiding them under the bumper to create a cleaner look lr have actually accentuated them to look hideous.
Whole thing looks a car crash.

This is almost certain to be bought by wealthy people who include women and foreigners. The good folk of NPE will not like any of this.

Well, I've got the runway and the "rival" - just need to get hold of a Velar SVA for the day to really see whether I made the right purchase choice!

If JLR and big V8 then RRS SVR. In RR you feel like a boss, and it looks proportionate, meaty and beautiful.
Velar is for rich old women.

I think the root cause is the frustration levels regarding the Range Rovers image problem and continuing self-harm in its home market, the UK.

It has been going on for a fair while now maybe the required restructuring will bring change but this launch will not do that hence, the posts will continue.

My boss had a Velar, I actually thought they look quite nice in a way - and this is from a die hard square set saloon fan. His was only the 2.0 petrol (which ruined the whole effect in my opinion) his also had a ridiculously small fuel tank - I would hope with this it’s more befitting the size of the car!
