RE: Ultima reveals new 'RS' model

the only annoying thing is they don't benchmark them enough so I know they could be setting lap records for many circuits way beyond the Senna/Pista times.
Ultima aren't exactly shy about pushing their 'fastest car in the world' themed marketing. I suspect if they thought they were in with a chance of taking lap records they'd be going for them.ghost83 said:

Um you are quite a bit out, the 1000bhp Ultima started at £95k (+ options) 5 years ago, and that was pre Evo, pre RS.
I would guess £150k for a properly built 1000bhp example.
Nah 80k will get you a 1200hp monsterI would guess £150k for a properly built 1000bhp example.

Pack A is 22k with vat
Pack B is 21k with vat
Then there’s the options of carbon etc etc which is another boat load as the rear wing is 2k plus
Then the lt5 engine can be had for $17,000 then upgrades another £10k easily

A short while ago, a factory built kit was around £95k for the Evo (just over 1,000bhp version)..
As for benchmarking, they had some pretty interesting stuff on their page about Dunsfold, comparing the car to everything else that Top Gear had put around. For some reason TG refused to run the car around the circuit; if anyone knows why, I'd be curious to know.
They're not a huge company, so may not have the budget. I guess nothing stops private owners from Time Attack style laps, but then the problem might be that private cars possibly aren't in "stock" trim, and then everyone would complain about comparing stock vs stock.
Personally, I think the Dunsfold times are more than enough to understand what this can do; which is to say, it's bloody fast!
IIRC TG wouldn't set a lap time in it as it was a Kit Car not a production car, that's how Ultima started. I always thought the Ape and his two side kicks were too 'up themselves' to test it as it was too cheap for them. 20 years ago I watched a Chevy powered green Spyder go round Abingdon. I was in a seven type kit car with a 150bhp pinto. It left everyone standing, even with it's 60 something driver at the wheel. If only I had the money.........As for benchmarking, they had some pretty interesting stuff on their page about Dunsfold, comparing the car to everything else that Top Gear had put around. Packs A+B are £36k +vat so £43
550ish bhp engine is £8k
gearbox £3k
iva will be about £1k
Say 8k in misc/better cockpit etc
Tyres, £1k
so £63k ish......
Its rare in the kitcar world that it'll actually hold its money fairly well. and if you did it for around 60k you'd get it back.
What’s in pack A and B?550ish bhp engine is £8k

Have always hankered after building one of these. Though If I were I'd be sticking in a Tesla powertrain (which looks quite simple in reality) leaving plenty of room for decent amount of batteries in the engine bay.
You like 2-ton cars with hairdryer "sound", don't you?I love a V8 but a 2.5Ton bog standard P100d will still embarrass that Ultima with that old V8 in 700kg car! Do the maths, in terms of packaging/weight/driveabilty I really think this could be a route to go down. Stick 250kg of batteries in there for 150m ish range & the D Dual Motor & diff unit weighing 160kg with 536 HP and 443 ft/lb lb-ft of torque at the wheels.
What does the factory engine/gearbox & fuel weigh? I'm pretty sure the Tesla/battery combo will win hands down on
BHP/Ton for the power unit. BHP per ton is always quicker

If you want a more motorsport-focused engine, you can fit the Mercury Marine SB4, which is a quad-cam 32-valve LS7 with 750-775bhp (depending which source you believe)... revs to 8k.
Somebody mentioned the Gardner-Douglas T70... if classic Lola replicas are your thing, you might as well go for the Broadley T76, which is so close to the originals that they're accepted in classic racing to compete with original T70s.

That’s excellent value for the performance, given that nothing else with numberplates is going to get close to it. What’s its competition for lap times, GT3 Cups and F3 cars? 550ish bhp engine is £8k

Thanks for info on EB T76, great looking & sounding car, but over budget compared to the Ultima.Somebody mentioned the Gardner-Douglas T70... if classic Lola replicas are your thing, you might as well go for the Broadley T76, which is so close to the originals that they're accepted in classic racing to compete with original T70s.

There’s 20+ k of “options” on the RS which is all stuff you’d probably want.
Thanks ghost for posting

Great to see these getting some attention. That fitted luggage is a huge bonus. My neighbour has a Can-Am and there is no storage space at all. That relegates it to toy status. But...it's pretty much the ultimate toy! It will spin up both rears at the national speed limit in 3rd with no option of traction control or ABS if you just want to cruise and chill out. Its too fast for the roads, but who cares. What a machine!

The central section of the car is unchanged so you neighbours Can-Am will have the same luggage spaces in the side pods. I managed a tent, sleeping bag and a couple of changes of clothes in mine last year. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
