I thought they categorically stated in the article that's what they're using?Love to know how it will get a reg though?
And if it's IVA'd with all new components, I would assume it gets a new reg per that year (so a 19 plate at present).

Schools out again I see.......
You were being a bit bloody condescending, though, weren't you? Anyway.........unlike most on here, writing armchair internet crap, I've actually owned them and abused them back in the day, albeit proper Mk1 Escort shape

I can see a market in that regard, as the money in historic rallying has pushed everything else up in price with it because of finite supply of ID's.
Shouldn't be too difficult to get these through IVA I wouldn't have thought? You aren't making a concours RS2000 road car out of one of these, so the IVA compromises won't be an issue.

Cooking versions of the rear-driven coupe are widely acknowledged as some of the Blue Oval’s finest driving machines
Who writes this bks? its a two door saloon, not a coupe. This perfectly addresses the definition.
On the left, a 4-door saloon (also available in 2-door variety.
On the right, a 2-door hatchback
In the middle, a 2-door coupe

Honest question: Can someone explain to me why an ancient ford chassis is so desirable?
Greatest, and most successful rally car ever........and clearly you've never driven one on a loose surface, as if you had you wouldn't have asked such a silly question.andymadmak said:

Would take this over an original RS 2000 to be fair.
Hopefully these new ones won't rot as quickly as mine did! I vividly remember the drivers door mirror, together with a sizeable section of drivers door panel detaching itself on the M5 near Bridgewater....I would hope they galvanise them, I would want to get it treated, then lash loads of protection on and avoid rain.

I'd like to see someone build and import shells for less than £5k and then you have to build them up at home and just register them as a kit car - source all the mechanical bits yourself and chose whatever engine you fancy - is that possible in todays over-legislated world?
I'd have a high revving Jap twin cam engine and 6 speed box, mated to an LSD axle, disks all round, electric PAS, Omex ECU, custom wiring loom, the brakes suspension etc all available from motorsport specialists, interior just needs 2 competition seats, minimal dash.
That's a GT86 / BRZ, isn't it?* Why go to all the hassle of building your own?I'd have a high revving Jap twin cam engine and 6 speed box, mated to an LSD axle, disks all round, electric PAS, Omex ECU, custom wiring loom, the brakes suspension etc all available from motorsport specialists, interior just needs 2 competition seats, minimal dash.
- OK, minus the competition bits

But presumably no chance of getting it road registered?
The article said:
one tested to IVA requirements so it can be registered for road use.
- subject to checking last night's EuroMillions result
To meet IVA isn't as simple as you'd like though.

If only there was the desire and market to do this with a Viva/Firenza shell as well.
First car dreams.
oh mate - loads of others: Manta (1 & 2); Commodore B coupe; Vauxhall Magnum; X1/9?: Beta CoupeFirst car dreams.
Compared to the Mini, Mk2 Escort, MGB (where shells are available), most of the above lacked the necessary sales when new, let alone today.

And as such, not eligible for FIA historic events, but does means that leaves the real identity data plate rebuilds to the historic rally people, and these 'new builds' for everyone else that wants to use them on non-historic events or as a nostalgia road car if that way inclined.

Indeed. I hadn't thought about the fact it's age would prevent it competing with historics. However I guess that's largely unavoidable within the reals of the law, and finite number of remaining IDs available. I can see a market in that regard, as the money in historic rallying has pushed everything else up in price with it because of finite supply of ID's.

If thats your fancy then Rally Prep (http://rallyprep.co.uk) are disposing of a number of their ClubSport spec rally-prepared GT86's (MOTEC, seq box, prep'ed engine, LSD, caged, seam-welded, etc) at the moment, fully built, FIA logbooked and ready to go … 25k and up …- OK, minus the competition bits
Why build your own indeed ...
