It must be possible to produce a good looking 500hp, 6 speed manual, 2 door, 1200kg, rear wheel drive sports car for £60k in a way that's compliant and profitable.
2015-2019 Ford Mustang GT350R

526hp, 6 speed manual, 2 door, 1658kg, rear wheel drive sports car for £54k

It is compliant and profitable in its domestic market. V8 with flat-plane crankshaft exceeds spec's of the TVR lump and revs to 8250 rpm. GBP price includes estimated tax and on-the-road fees in USDM.

Not exactly what you wanted, but not a disappointment, either. Horses for courses and all that.

Close and desirable in it's own right. In no way a sports car though.

I'm thinking a brawnier Alpine A110 or Lotus Evora. Either of those with TVR'ness would be a hoot

The Corvette would be closer, but it's still a third of a tonne too heavy. Even an Evora is well over 1200kg.

If anything they should have shared a factory with the new Aston martin factory in St Athan, I’ve been working on the project for 18 months and it’s mega, both in scale, what’s needing to be done and cost.

Indeed. In participating on PH, I've been informed numerous times that almost any car I've ever owned, driven, or wanted to buy is most emphatically not a sports car. Truly astonishing.

there's something to that

the sixth-generation Corvette coupe, ended 2013 model year, was as little as 1442kg from the factory

least powerful version was 400hp / 400lb-ft

I was lucky enough to meet & have a chat with Les Edgar the TVR owner at last years' London Concours where the car was shown. It was abundantly clear to me he's a proper TVR enthusiast, very humble & honest and a thoroughly decent guy. Definitely not your usual corporate car boss that's for sure, he's doing it mainly for the love & passion. He certainly comes across as the sort of guy who would seriously listen to customer / public / press feedback so I'd be very surprised if they aren't busy re-designing / re-tooling bits of it as we speak to make it look more modern & attractive (esp as it's now already 4 years old). It won't take much. Come proper launch time I'm sure it will look much more attractive.

Sadly looking dated design wise already.

Needs a refresh but I admire the ambition.

Zara’s Ortega made his name sprinting fashion to the consumer in record time.

I don’t think Mr Edgar will trouble him in this regard.

I recall Wheeler being able to achieve superhuman feats at the expense of, well, everything - especially human - again, I don’t think there exists the almost dictatorial passion.

Mr Edgar seems like an absolute gentleman and of course that means there is much to respect, but I’m not sure this project required such prowess and perhaps would have benefitted from someone a little more rough around the edges.

I hope they achieve success with the car but to me it’s dull and I don’t see the advance over buying one of the old cars...

Jesus Christ if Les is reading this dross he may as well pack up and go home - what a load of half arsed negative crap from a load of down trodden victims of life.

Do any of you ever have the tenacity and guts to see anything through or do you all just atrophy on your sofa shovelling processed food down your gullets watching fking Netflix drooling over your Facebook feed filled fking fones??!!

On that basis I’ll be bucking the trend. Good luck to them and I hope it gets some jobs into the local communities in this current climate.

To all those opposed? Hmmm.....well?!

Not feeling downtrodden Garth. Don’t do Facebook. Don’t eat processed food particularly and I definitely applaud the concept.

The problem is I just don’t want one. Not the same as I want an Elise, and Exige, an Atom or even a Hellcat type thing. It just misses every base for me and manages to be - on paper - pretty good but just not exciting.

Wishing everyone the best of success with it and I’m glad you like it but personally I just don’t. Sorry.

Agreed. Until anyone credible from TVR or Gordon Murray confirms that the prototype (there is only the one car in existence, right ?) has already, and is still doing, any serious development and test driving, we must doubt if it will ever progress. In fact, has it even turned a serious wheel as yet ?

And IF there is still enough money in the pot by then, it will take at least two years to get everything sorted out, and get any cars ready for sale

As always with the internet the vast majority of criticism comes from people who aren't customers and likely never will. I know I can't afford one, I'd have an order in if I could, but personally I hope they make a success of it.

Yes please. Could do with improved proportionality in several areas.
Indeed. Although the delay has been a nightmare they have at least a chance to tweak the car.

This forum never ceases to amaze me. As if we could have two more opposing views in such close proximity!

Day to day what are they actually doing at TVR while this factory is sorted?

It’s suicide to just be sat on a “finished” design letting it age.

I have to agree, the game has moved on.
