I live in this UK. I visit Canada for no more than 4 weeks every year.

I own a car there because I bought it for a road trip and couldn't bear to part with it. rolleyes

On the plus side, I have some very accommodating family there and my miss loves thr car as much as I do and also didn't want it to go.

Heart over head in this case!

Hi - have you worked out where to get the paint done, and how much it's going to cost. I'm currently looking into paint options for my 156 GTA....

I tried to PM you, but couldn't.
It’s in the queue for the bodyshop used by Alfaaid in Maidenhead. The queue is full of SZs - and I’ve seen the quality. The bodyshop man is scary - it’s like he sees in different frequencies or something, he can see damage in a panel that looks perfect to normal humans. The cost - depends on the job. Between 3 and 4 grand for something that looks perfectly good. Up to 7 + parts for something that looks fecking miraculous. I’m going for upper end, glass out, done properly.

I’ve got most of the bits - new (s/h) body kit as mine was hacked about, the all important jacking points, badges, and a spare wing to replace the bashed one,

Small world - that's exactly the same queue I'm contemplating joining. If you wouldn't mind PMing me, I'll share a few more details.

At last I'm not alone. I spend hours on AT, PH, Ebay looking for my next one. My limit is space, only room for 4 (5 at a push). Currently have a 2018 Macan GTS, my third one and the practical car, a late 2015 Cayman, huge fun with PDK and PSE and will probably never sell, a late 2015 SLK 250d, my daily hack for 50 mile a day round trip that is reasonable fun and 50+MPG, 2016 Suzuki Swift which was our son's car up until last month but bought him a new Mini Cooper Sport so its now the shopping trolly.

Will probably be retiring at the end of this tax year so the SLK and Suzuki will be going to replaced by another convertible and another hatch but what those will be I haven't decided yet, so it's back to AT, PH, Ebay until I've made my mind up, for now :-)

We have 4 cars in our house hold. We did have 3 then I decided to sell both mine to replace with one...and then I bought 2 more!

So we used to have:

Jaguar X-Type 2.2d Sport - my daily
Jaguar XKR 4.0 Coupe - my toy
Seat Ibiza 1.4 Sport - wifes toaster on wheels.

Then I sold the X-Type andf XKR and bought a 2012 Jag XFS 3.0.

So now it looks like this:
Jaguar XFS - my 'I want to drive something nice today car' or go to car shows, suns out etc.
Seat Toledo 1.9TDi - daily hack now I have kids and nursery runs to do. Piling on miles, and gradually the electrics are failing so it's going to be gone soon.
Vauxhall Frontera V6 - got it off a mate who works at Vauxhall. Massive old school V6 auto leather clad truck with shedloads of space.
Vauxhall Insignia CDTi SRi - Wife new family wagon

If the truck dies then i'll get something to combine what that and the Toledo does. The Toledo was only ever meant for solid reliable commuting and its hanging in there...just!

I honestly think it depends on the cars, if there interesting then I have no problem having multiple cars. If there worthless crap then don’t really see the point myself a car should make you look back ! Although “ one mans junk and all that “

Surprised and happy to realize I don’t suffer from this affliction as much as most here. Perhaps because of storage restriction. Having moved here from America 5 yrs ago with my British wife the one and ONLY product that costs less over here than in the States are used cars 5 yrs and older. Don’t know why unless it’s due to the strict MOT requirements. Here’s my inventory to date:

1934 REO Flying Cloud Coupe- Family car brought over with us purchased by my dad in 1948
1982 Mercedes W123
1997 Mercedes C200- wife’s daily driver
MGF N reg.

Yep, first car I bought here in 2000 was a 92 Saab 900S convertible for the simple reason that it was about the same price as one would cost in the UK at the time. Used car prices fall off the face of the planet in the UK.

It becomes a problem when between MOTs you did 300 miles, and whilst it's on a classic policy that doesn't include comuting, you used it once to drive to your mid week digs 1/2 mile from where you work, when your daily brake driver was broke.
The OTHER 95 miles must be domestic pleasure and taking it for the MOT.

(95 bhp Mk1 mx5 poverty spec monza)
300 miles - that's loads.
My kit car went when it did 1 mile in a year - to the MOT station and back.
Babies do that to you ;-]
Times and priorities change.

The problem with the car hoarding is that trying to get cars washed is like a setting up a military operation. I spent 7 hours yesterday moving cars around so that I can position a non running car that i'm planning to dismantle onto the lift. They don't seem to get lighter as you get older.

Can I ask those of you with three cars plus what you do about insurance, assuming they are all in service and not off road for various reasons? Do you just go for a standard policy on each or multicar policy or is there something else I'm missing?

I currently have 2 cars both insured in my name with separate policies but I'm planning on potentially adding a third at some point.

Thanks
i have 10+working classic and modern classics (mostly 60s, 70s and 80s Alfas with some 80s and 90s Lancias) - a group policy for roughly costs £80-90 per car per annum through Hagerty - quick phone call to remove or add a vehicle and they are happy to pro rata cover for rest of year with no charge for changes to policy. some of the cars are factory standard, others are heavily modified with values between £4K and £50K

Our daily drivers - VW Touran, Sharan and Caravelle are insured through normal policies costing between £250-400 each - ironically, I am not a VW fanboy but handily, the Touran can fit an Alfa 105, Twinspark or Delta Integrale engine in the boot!

i presume those prices are for painting only and do not welding - interested in details as have some cars that could do with a respray and some welding (some more than others...not looking at you integrale! )
