Yes Smeg it’s all very different as we bought a lightweight sports car. The difference between the S and my PE performance-wise seems minimal. When I purchased my PE it was the only model available.
When you purchased your bag o’nails It was the slow version and slower by a considerable margin.
So perhaps you can explain your reasoning ?

smile Yes, it was a feckload quicker than my old 2.7 F6... as you know the F4 turbo auto can be much more impressive than anything manual & naturally aspirated...

The French have always had a quirky approach to design:

That, the perceived reliability issues, and also the high pricing would put me off an Alpine no matter how great the weight and handling. I daresay the DS would lose far less in depreciation though..
Never had any problems with any of my Renaults or my Alpine so far. My Porsche experience was very different however. I was back and forth to the dealer with electrical gremlins, misaligned spoilers and a PCM which kept rebooting itself. I love their cars but it's not as reliable as they present themselves to be. I saw a 8,000 miler 991.1 for sale recently for 65k. List price for the car was over 105k so you can't argue that has had rock solid residuals either. There are several 718s for sale now which are below the prices of 981s. Go figure.

Amazing how much time you Renault Alpine guys spend reading Porsche forums.
Says the Porsche guy on the Alpine forum. I am not stalking you as I'm genuinely interested in Nissan Zed cars as well but I'm pretty sure I saw you on there slating the Alpine too.

Mostly we appreciate cars - these can also include Porsches from time to time.

I would have kept the 2.7. I thought that had a great engine - it needed better gear ratios though.

Hello Smeg,
We’ve missed you - how is your depreciation looking now there’s a 6 pot Cayster?
Tell me, for someone who clearly knows his stuff, why did you buy the slow version ?
Good to see the old the old crew reunited. Some new faces as well by the looks if it, Alpine loyalty?

So if they’ve just released the ‘S’ you’re all now driving the ‘slow’ versions? Or does it work differently in Alpine-land?
count me in.

I would never have said it before but the road going gt4 version of the Alpine (if they make it) could really upset more pork fans.
Gt4 is now 1500kg so the benefit of that 6 pot 4.0 is offset by the mass it is carrying.
A 1000kg alpine with track oriented suspension and 320 hp would be an interesting alternative. Litchfield are extracting that power now but the gearbox would need to be taken care of.
Would probably be too extreme for me to want to use it as a daily but that would be a coup.

Absolutely. I fully researched all the competition, (Alfa, Porsche and Lotus predominantly) with an open mind, before making my decision. An open mind seems to be something you struggle with.

Oh dear, why is it that every thread involving the Alpine degenerates into a mud slinging contest involving die hard Porsche fans. They're even worse than some of the BMW drivers for their bias towards their favourite marque. The rest of us, who love all sorts of cars find it possible to be a fan of both the Cayman and the Alpine. Yes it really is possible Porsche owners, to like both!

Anyway, if you're a Porsche owner and hate the Alpine, why are you even on a thread discussing the new model?

Agree with the comment about the GT4. The first edition was one of my dream cars, but with this one, it looks like its getting too heavy and too pricey. A lightweight Alpine would indeed make a very competitive track day rival for one at a fraction of the cost.

Doubt this one is really much heavier than the last. In order to make the old one "appear" lighter they quoted the weights without sound system (which everyone added back in for free) used a smaller fuel tank etc etc. With WLTP they can't do that so the weights are more realistic. Nearly everyone used to do it - Alfa were probably the worst offenders, but Lotus were guilty too. Alpine have been honest - but since they could see WLTP on the horizon they might have felt they might as well be honest and capitalise on both the weight of the car and their honesty.

There seems to be general disappointment in the GT4 and Spyder and I really can't see why. They have more power than most expected and a higher rev limit - and a manual box. What everyone asked for. Not my cup of tea, (but then neither is the A110S) but I can see the appeal to some.

Ordered by A110 S this week in Non matt grey .. now the long wait for delivery . As an ex GT4 owner , I found the A110 s's light weight made it flow and not feel as brutal , but no less quick on normal roads
