Shed of the week:

Need to open the windows an inch or so or those logs will never dry out
Waste of a car (unless mechanical side of things is borked). Can’t make out what that hand written note says either.

It just says 'leave the pallets of logs here' (or some such). The car has not moved for years, so a shed it is.

A relative had one of these forever. For such a lengthy car I was always pretty disgusted at the lack of cabin space. Handled like a canal barge too but I think it was very well worn indeed.

I've had a few of these over the years. Had a 2.4 140 BHP one I picked up locally with a short MOT for £150, and ended up swapping it with an 850 GLT.

Then bought a 1-lady owner D5 on an '04 plate, with the 5 speed auto box around 18 months ago. She owned from new, had all the history and even the original bill of sale for circa £25k. She was an older lady who treated herself to the Volvo when she retired from teaching. It also had a receipt for over £5k when the engine was rebuilt. She actually had a tear in her eye when I completed the paperwork for it, but she was forced to sell due to the London emission rules. Used that to commute up and down to Newcastle for a good few months. Sublime comfort from those seats, was a great place to commute in. Just felt a little gutless above 70+mph, and the gearbox was getting a little clonky. Still, for £500, was the ultimate bargain estate.

Finally, had the 2.3 T5 model which I sold in March when it failed the MOT on a few bits. Paid £250 for that. So, that's £1 per bhp! Quick, comfortable, and in my opinion, stylish in the right colour.

Currently got my eye on a 2006 2.4 petrol with 335k miles on the clock. Every few months, I find myself looking on Gumtree and eBay for old Volvo estates (or even the S210 E Class wagons).

Had a few 850s and a 940 LPT - now that had a seriously good turning circle!

Great cars, but as others have said, very poor examples of SOTW and those cloth seats make me want to throw up.

Super cars! I had my Y reg one for about 12 years, having bought it when it was just 2 years old.
It was another pale blue one like these and was the 170bhp petrol version.
Only let me down once in all that time, when the alternator failed.
Loved it and was sad to see it go when I traded it for a 2014 XC70

Bought a D5 V70 2007 Geartronic (semi auto)model in 2009 was 185BHP had the Polestar software upgrade fitted now 205BHP with much improved mid range torque. I have now done 75k and can now say these Volvo's are well put together especially the body work with no sign of rust. Get around low 30 in town but 45+ out of town. Best practical car I have ever owned. Others not so practical 3 Alpine GTA's also 2 Lotus Evora's. New Volvo's are still pretty good but the older ones's are hard to beat.

My 2001 V70 2.4 n/a petrol was the worst and last Volvo I ever bought.

Love mine. Same colour funnily. 2002 2.4 petrol. Got it with just over 70,000 miles on it. Now approaching 90,000 after a few years.

Amazing sound system. Comfiest seats known to man. Can’t beat them. Swapped a leather interior in mine.

Can haul anything you need to. What’s not to love? Okay maybe the MPG. Get around 25 to 31 MPG depending on what mood I’m in.

People saying it is gutless / slow? Dunno if mine has been remapped by a previous owner as pulls all the way to 100. Not a slow car?

Eats the miles like no other car. Hit cruise on the motorway and try not to drift asleep in those lovely seats.

Think it is one of the best looking estates out there. Well apart from the Alfa 159 sport wagon. Always think about getting one of them but think I would just miss the volvo too much.

If anyone wants one of these for free, the friends who stayed in my house over winter have left it here and are happy for me to get rid of it. London, SW2. It's a comfy old thing. But as others have said, the diesel is the one to have, not the 2.4 petrol.

Their replacement car? A Mazda Bongo Friendee. I kid you not.

The V70's reg is HJ51 YNO, 2.4 Petrol, MOT until January, and it is parked on the street near my house. Any PHer who wants it is welcome to a cup of tea at ours and a jump start! Although preferably no traders - I'd like it to go to someone who actually needs it. Otherwise I'll speak to a local garage and get a couple of hundred quid for it myself.

Frankly, I couldn't be bothered to insure it and just use it as a tip car until it dies. I already barely use the cars that I have!
Harry, have dropped you a pm!

Sorry guys - the owners found a new owner before I did, so the car is gone (or will be soon). At least it won't be parked outside my house anymore.
