Somehow I doubt many McLaren owners drive around thinking, "I really wish I had an old Porsche".Having said that, these new GT4/Spyder cars look the real business as Porsche continues to overlap its Cayman and 911 ranges around £80k. And the entry Boxster/Cayman remain fantastic cars from just £45k.

Agree with the above on the involvement and driving points - and whilst there are a number of factors involved in what I'm about to say it does look as though it is backed up in the marketplace - a 981GT4 has retained most if not all of its original list price. The same could not be said of the 570S.
Gt4 limited run, 570s standard production car so hardly surprising it depreciates RSbandit said:

Who says the GT4 is limited run? They are going to make as many as they can when production is running. But not a pre set number like the new 991 Speedster. The production is just limited in time and will probably end when the new Cayman/Boxster is introduced.Franzino said:

Given the hoops you have to jump through to get one sure feels limited!Dinoboy said:

Never owned a Porsche and enquired about one today.
My local OPC had an allotment of 2 Cayman GT4's and 3 Spyders. Can confirm. They won't even consider selling one to you if you don't have an existing relationship with that particular OPC and even then, the director gets to choose who can buy one from the list of interested buyers.
So much for being built on the normal production line, a longer run & less restricted. My local OPC had an allotment of 2 Cayman GT4's and 3 Spyders. Can confirm. Why don't you try to order a RHD car in an other country then the UK? Looks possible! I know people who ordered a new LHD BMW M3 in the UK and brought it to Belgium (and saved some serious money also). But don't know if it works for Porsche and the other way? In Belgium you can order a new GT4 with zero issues (I called the local Porsche dealer today).
Wouldn't it be classed as an import, with all the 'fun' that that brings?Edited by anonymous-user on Thursday 20th June 12:36

It's not very complicated and they're all imports anyway. Even the DVLA stopped calling them imports on the V5 many years ago. I reckon they're will be a long wait though, whether real or otherwise. LHD could be easier perhaps. GingerMunky said:

Is this another Porsche that will be impossible to buy at a dealer?
Exactly! What's the point? Buy a Lotus or Alpine instead.boxsey said:
The thing is, would you still make that recommendation after an extensive drive in a GT4? I'll admit that this is not a simple task..no one will get a test drive of a new 718 GT4 before they order one and it's not easy to get a test drive of a used 981 GT4.
you don't need a test drive when your going to stick it on pistonhead classifieds with a 50% mark upA couple of interesting facts to stoke the argument:
1. All petrol engined sports cars are built at the same factory in Zuffenhausen ... including the GT cars and the Cup cars. Only the RSR's are but at Weissach. I saw a 718 GT4 Cup car in build whilst on a factory tour five weeks ago ... there was no shortage of questions answered !
2. I took my 918 GT4 to the weigh bridge with 90% full fuel tank, manuals, carbon seats and brakes ... an £85k car new. The weight plus or minus 20Kg's, was 1440 Kg's.

Maybe in the UK...but not from my experience (see a couple of posts above). It's perceived 'free motoring' that's driving the mad scrabble of the GT cars here really.

And that's actually a very irritating issue. Had I been able to test drive the 981 gt4 I'd never have ordered the car...Edited by isaldiri on Saturday 22 June 10:55

The topic is about new cars, not used.
There is no shortage of these cars. They are simply bought by speculators with a view to selling on at a profit. They stillhave full manufacturer warranty. All the stuff about "you can't get one" usually comes from people who haven't the slightest intention of buying an £80k car in the first place.
