Just about the perfect pair of cars.

If only Porsche would make more of them!

Slightly off topic, but with people talking availability and 12 month waits, does anyone know what the wait times are for new 992s at the moment?

Exactly - what people are thinking is a GT is in fact a non-GT product. i.e. the spyshots that have been interpreted as a GT4 touring are instead the 718-6...

I don't like the wheels, and think the twin central exhausts on the older GT4 look better than the new ones (and the 991.2 style exhausts better than both).
But the rest of the GT4? Absolutely fantastic.

.. Having just driven 3,000 miles in 2 weeks in my Spyder around the South of Rance, Dolomites & Germany I never found the gearing too long. 2nd and 3rd most of the time in the alpine passes with a few 1st gear hairpins (easy with the rev match). The gearing is very well judged for the car IMHO.
Sounds like a pretty good time you’ve had! If you could write up a bit about this grand tour it would be much appreciated. Keeping tabs on the euro trips shared here to ‘spec’ my next adventure, probably Alps or Dolomites focused.

I think you've nailed it on the exterior. The wheels will probably age well with time (i hope) but the central twin exhausts of the 981 GT4 are epic - the 718 one's aren't a patch on it.

As far as I know, you can only actually leave a deposit now - because the order books are now open. Letters of Interest could have been sent years ago however.

Walking into my local OPC last week, I was told there would be a very small allocation for October this year, and the rest will be built next year.

I don't see the uproar in that Porsche dealers give first dibs to their best customers. As I understand it, they are getting better at recognising flippers and 'punish' people who do flip.

I imagine dealers will be inundated, because let's face it, at £75k they are a bit of a bargain. Therefore, expect hundreds of whingers to come shortly after!

Used, existing 981 GT4s look a little pricey now. For me, the most interesting thing is that the Spyder seems to be identical from a hardware perspective this time round.

P.s. Let’s hope that the Touring Package materialises on this GT4.
Preuniger said he doesn't see the need to as it's already a manual.

Would love either, and could probably afford one if I swapped two cars for it, but I've got zero chance of getting on the list.

Hopefully this will knock a decent amount of the value of the previous GT4, but I suspect not as the 718 GT4 will be offered at a significant premium by the flippers so the old GT4 will still look good value even at today's prices.

I'd rather get an Evora or Exige now. Similar performance, similar driving dynamics but worse engine and cabin. Think I can live with that.
I have a 981 Spyder & Exige 430 CUP. They are in no way similar. The are both 2 of the best cars money can buy IMHO of owning 30+ sports & supercars. The Spyder is so well resolved, great to drive, amazing on road and track. The Exige is on another level though, McLaren acceleration (in gear), race car handing and 100% concentration to drive, its a real event! While on paper they seem similar in reality they are not really comparable. The Exige has a lovely engine, it sounds crazy with a sports exhaust. Chris Harris drove my car and said it was the best sounding car he had ever driven! Both are 5* cars but go about their business in different ways.
Jammy git!

I don't mind if genuine owners get to buy these cars, but why does it seam like it's only the speculators and Vloggers who get these cars? No doubt Shmee150, Mr JWW, and alike will all have one straight away.
I'd imagine it's becase the speculators and Vloggers are the ones interested in advertising that they've got the cars, the drivers will be out driving.

Surprised they used the same gear ratios that was a common criticism of the car that 2nd gear was too long.

Will they not release a PDK?

Looks nice though shame i'm going electric next otherwise i'd have been tempted with one of these.

Wait, so let me get this right:

Its the same power-to-weight, same torque, same gearing and same suspension.

With a normal 911 engine (as lovely as they are).

And quite a bit more expensive.

Not really an update of value, rathermore Porsche simply making more GT4's available, just this time with a 4.0L made out of the existing 9A2 engine to allow headroom to manage emissions.

All of which explains why the 718 Clubsport racecar hasn't bothered updating to the 4.0 - the 9A1 3.8L at 420bhp without all the emissions gubbins likely outperforms it wink.

I personally don't particularly want Auto start/stop and cylinder deactivation on a sports/track car - fine for the everyday car.

Need to look beyond the Porsche marketing hype - but well done to them for sticking with NA, despite the compromises needed to get there.

I suspect in time the 981 GT4 will likely remain the gem that it is.

no matter have many Porsches you have owned from my experience you wont be allowed one
they will go to clients who are not speculators, but then by magic they will appear on piston heads for sale
or back in the dealers at massive premiums added, Porsche should be looking after the clients who made their brand, the true enthusiasts ,they are going to catch a cold the writing is on the wall.

Porsche will provide multiple production runs this time, so likely you can order one in similar fashion to conventional 992 Carrera's.

Maybe the first wave will be full, but more will come.

Likely with PDK later also (and maybe that car will enable the torque figure to rise above the 410 (currently limited by manual gearbox specs)).

So no need to rush this time I think.

(if anything, its probably better to wait and see how the first wave of cars perform, see whats what with the engine and the emissions side of things in terms of true performance and sound).

Other publications indicate that the new engine built on the normal production line, meaning the productions constraints are less than the previous model resulting in more cars being able to be made - So GT4s for everyone! (who can afford them).
