As it’s been said above, there is no real b pillar, crack is in the fibre glass in the door shut, it is not structural. I totally understand people’s skepticism but they need to actually see it before describing it at a ‘Cat C death trap’ when it’s not even on the register, It would be very easy to do a quick £500 make over and sell it as ‘mint’, he hasn’t done that.
Often find this forum is a little like hypochondriacs self diagnosing on google, until you get someone who knows, you have no idea.

If you're in the market at this price point then you'd surely be spending your money on a VX220? Don't see any benefit in the money 'saved' on this particular Cat C car.
Just what I was thinking. This month South West Car auctions in Poole have a classic car auction. They are listing a 67,000 mile VX220 with a guide price of £5,500 to £6,500. If I had some spare money I'd be down there like a shot! Even if it makes £7,000 its got to be a much better buy than this S2.

Dear Pistonheads,

Please take this article down off your website. Do some research and you will understand why. It will take you no longer than 15 to 20 minutes to realise your mistake.
Dear Pistonheads,

Please keep this article on your website. Let it be a beacon of the nadir that PH has reached when it comes to its engagement with its community and what this website once represented.

The mere existence of this article about a Lotus from a dealer that has notoriety for its previous existence as TVRGlen, alongside an article of a cat C TVR which has some provenance of proper care and attention in the 10 years since it was placed on the register, shows that the founding fathers of a website dedicated principally to TVR and other British marques have long since left the building.

Living in the past and commenting how much better the old days were, as many of the longer members on here do, is one thing, but promoting a munter of a car from a very questionable source leaves a lot to be desired.

Report card: D-. You have not just let your forum members down, you've let yourself down.

An early S2 is sub-800kg.

The 0-60 times are impressive because they have a rear biased weight distribution and massive traction.

Well said. Is the editorial being written by work experience kids??

Yep a TVR Glen job. I've not had any first hand experience, but stories the country wide would make me steer WELL clear!

The Tuscan cat C came from the north east, very likely a Tvr Glen car as well.

This is the same place that "repaired" and possibly sold the 172000 mile red Elise S2 in this previous Pistonheads article.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I can tell you that that car wasn't repairable in any sense of the word. I know because I was driving it when it crashed.

There are non cat supercharged VX220s kicking around for around this money if you want one to put on track. And as everyone else has said, the seller is notorious, fortunately there is a comments section otherwise some unwitting reader of PH could just go buy this thinking the website has endorsed it. For that money I wouldn't be touching that Elise if you want to stay safe on track, so many better options out there.

On a happier note, my Elise S1 had over 90,000 miles on the clock when I sold it. I bought a Europa S (upgraded to SE spec), got 2 days at Hethel as part of a promo they were running (supposedly just for Elise buyers), and lo and behold, when we pitched up at the test track, there was my old car - the person running our "experience" had bought it!

Cracking photos (of the yard). At least they’re honest. hehe

Would pick a VX220 all day long. Unless in the market for Exige. wink

Bit late to the game. Regarding the original article, if someone can afford c.£10K for, probably, a second car, then they can afford to spend just a little longer saving and buy a car for £12K. This buys a 60k non write off. No brainer, really.

And if anyone handy with the spanners is thinking of taking on the above, I'd say it would have to be a loooong way south of £10K to be worth the risk. Work out what you'd get if you broke said car, spares or repairs, and offer that, no more. Just sayin'
