How many new Fords have you bought from the dealer over the years?

Again, put up a poll to see how many people pay full list for their Ford. You are taking out of your backside and the more you post the more stupid you look

I made a pretty reasonable comment related to the thread, ie nobody will pay list price as nobody ever does with fords, they always have some sort of discount unless a limited halo model which this certainly isn't and some internet ford loving rambo pops along to proclaim me wrong with something more obscure than his own genetic coding, not my problem, if you don't want to get involved just ignore it and carry on, the perils of public forums i'm afraid

I agree with your comment and I'm not slagging you off on a personal level but prove you are the better man by letting the other chap have his say and ignore him.
PH seems to be full of people who hijack threads to get their own rant out in public.
This is a thread about the focus st when it's been around a bit the prices will come down and I agree with what you originally said but rising to the bait of an I'll informed keyboard Rambo isn't very grown up.

My aunty who is now 77 has bought at least 15 new fords outright with no discount so obviously your wrong, she is hartwells top customer you can see there face light up when she walks in,
There are still people
Who pay top money for cars they just probably don’t navigate car nerd forums so would be pointless having a poll on here about it,

I bought plenty before car forums existed and I still never paid list, they never even start their negotiation at list 😂

Well I just test drove one of these, liked it, and have ordered. About £4.5k off list via broker. With the 2.9% PCP rates it offers good value relative to the competition; under £200 per month with £8k down. Price wasn't my leading concern, but it certainly helped with the decision.

Now the test drive was shorter than I'd have liked, but it was unaccompanied and I did manage to get a few minutes on a pretty tired stretch of B-road to get a sense of things. The ride is good in normal mode and feels firm, but certainly not wayward or harsh, in sport. Damping quality feels high. Steering is quick but accurate; brakes are initially sharp but have great feel in the pedal. Engine is a brilliant for this class and has some actual character. Loads of torque and revs cleanly without becoming manic, which for this type of car is bang on - it isn't an RS after all. Didn't really get enough time to determine which mode I will spend most time in. I agree that the rev-match lock is a shame, although it is a very effective system and I get the feeling it will suit the 'sport' setting which feels like it's generally set up for higher loads through the chassis (i.e. when you're really pressing on). I'd not tried a similar system before and my immediate thought was that it's almost like a halfway house between a paddle shift and a traditional manual; not necessarily a bad thing. Heel and toe is still possible in 'normal', pedals aren't ideal but they aren't prohibitive either.

Thing is, it is a great all round package. Loads of kit including adaptive cruise, seats are comfy, 'B&O' stereo is excellent for this class of car, good safety ratings, and a towbar for the bike rack (which many rivals don't permit). Only downside is the slightly shallow boot. To my eyes it looks good in the flesh, particularly in blue, and I think the subtle nature of the changes over a normal Focus is well judged. Leave fins and wings to the RS.

I do think this is true of certain members of the older generation, particularly non internet savvy individuals. My in-laws were quite prepared to pay list for a new Fiesta back in 2011, until 10 minutes online with them knocked £4,200 off the price. Went back into the dealership armed with a print-out, and the salesman dropped £3,500 without thinking about it. They opted to pay the difference to deal locally.

Back when I was selling cars in the early 90s, haggling took legwork (phoning around, multiple visits etc). Now it's done with a few mouse clicks.

Stupid to have the rev matching permanently on in sport modes. If it were to be permanently on it should have been on the normal modes and selectable on sport and race.

The more reviews I read the more these grow on me, I even am coming around to the looks slowly. It definitely looks better on the optional 19 inch alloys IMO

19" are standard fit in the UK so not sure why they are referred to as optional in some press stuff. Perhaps they are in different markets? There are no alloy options on the configurator.
