Thought non-Cups lacked Perfohubs? Now that would mean almost as much as the LSD.

However, would it cost less to retrofit than to pay Cup prices if you're preparing a track car anyway? Bear in mind that the LSD will be past its best on an old car, and many will have become effectively open diffs by 100k...
No idea in the hubs, although I’m sure non cups will have it. As things like brakes etc are effectively the same, bar paint colour and grooved discs.
I also thought the LSDs were torsen (or similar) where they don’t wear out like the viscous style ones.

Perfohubs are definitely on all models.
So its springs, shocks, LSD and ARB to bring it up to cup spec? Not too ridiculous given you'll have new parts, do all the links and bushes at the same time and it should feel like new.

My thoughts too. Fun little project.

Having been through a few quick cars of all kinds, impreza's, R35 GTR, supercharged jags, Mitsi GTO/FTO, I really rate these quick Meganes.

The spec makes a big difference though. Don't know much about this generation but I currently have an R26 from the previous generation and the cup spec dampers and LSD make a huge difference compared to the standard 225 from that era.
Theyve got tonnes of traction for a fwd car with a fair bit of power, out handle golfs and audis - are well made in dieppe rather than the standard renault shack - had a 172 that i did 212k on faultlessly till the wiper washers went and then the coilpack went, getting a bit pricey.,.

Id have another 182 as a dd to keep the fuel prices down, and not wanting to put miles on my c63.

I had the Cup chassis, and the 18" wheels, and I found the ride just too crashy. Handled like a racing car, but compared to the C63 I replaced it with, I wouldn't advocate the cup chassis unless you intend to track it constantly.
Interesting, as my RS250 with a Cup (and 18's) is firm, but the damping is really well resolved (for an OEM product) meaning they are stiff, but not crashy, even on some of Scotland's finest B-roads. Mine has pretty fresh springs, dampers and various other bushes / links which may help in that regard however.
Mine was virtually brand new, so it was more my perception of crashy.

The previous car to the Megane was a Tuscan on Nitrons, and my weekend car was/is a Pantera on Ohlins, and the Megane was followed by a C63, so whilst I would agree it was resolved, and excellent on B-roads, it would be a little crashy on pot holes, man hole covers.

My point still stands, that the non Cup chassis car is still a very fine thing, with a little more comfort afforded.

Hmm, gives me an idea... One could make a nice, cheap fast road car with a non cup and an LSD...

Well my other car is a VX220 with Lotus Exige suspension, so my perception is probably way off! The Cup chassis is less crashy than my older M135i when the suspension was in sports mode. And the Megane would take it apart on most decent roads anyway!

Any comments on reliability from owners? I thought this era was the nadir for Froggy quality? I hope I'm wrong, these looks like great value.
Pretty good. The engines are fairly strong and will take 350-odd bhp easily enough, gearboxes are fine and the interior seems durable enough, save for the seat bolsters on cars with Recaros.

They need to be kept tip-top in suspension terms to make the best of them, but they seem better put together than the previous version.

can i add to this, what does Dieppe do differently?
it's the same Renault components but screwed on properly, by hand, on a separate line?
i see the Clios running on circuit a lot, but the Megs are only just coming on stream as track rats - older and to be abused more.

I have just bought a 250 Cup extremely cheap and it is great fun ! I am in the process of turning it into a track / ring tool and everything I have worked on so far has been fairly easy.

Great cars and terrific value at the moment.

Back in 2012 when I got a promotion but had to give up the company car I went to see a white cup with the recaros and was blown away by the diff, just hooks and drags you through, great fun. I held back as it was a bit tatty, then drove a remapped oyster grey one and it was awesome, pops bangs and so much shove. Ended up getting a mk1 focus rs for 9k (vs 14k for the meg) and I wouldn't say regretted it but I have no doubt these meganes set the high water mark...

I have all the megane 250 running gear in an older 225 running at 320bhp with the R26R 6 speed gearbox and diff. The 250 engines are significantly more reliable than the 225 they replaced

Indeed!

The wrong way around.

At 7/10th it's a pretty capable car. Beyond that, the Cup car is in a completely different league.
I'm pretty sure he means a Lux with a Cup pack to get the leather seats and various other options included.

I loved my 250 Cup. Only got rid of it as I was t-boned on a roundabout one day.

For 5k, these are an absolute bargain. Just be aware of the suspension/steering parts that need refreshing after a few years.
