Wow.

90 Grand for a glorified kit car.
Do the factory tour and see if you are still of that opinion, but yes, Morgans have never been cheap, but they can sell every one they make.

I think they’re lovely. The only real issue that I have is that since migrating out to the Cotswolds full time I do see a huge number of Morgans and I get the destiny impression that you have to have a white beard and only use the car for taking your mother out for lunch at half the signed speed limit. biggrin

I have a 1972 Morgan 4/4 1600 at home, which is a lifetime car.

The Plus6 is too expensive for me; but any Morgan is getting too costly for me to consider, I'd guess the cost of labour is really starting to bite.

The Plus6 is as near as Morgan gets to a clean-sheet design, with new chassis, engine and gearbox. The chassis has some similarity to the old Aero folded alloy chassis, but is a new design.

I'm very fond of my trad, it has a purity of design and purpose that a more blinged-up car misses. (The big downside is its durability in hard use is compromised. It really was built to a price and that price was low, so mild steel when stainless would be better and vinyl when leather would do).

Don’t get the gear knob. There must be some legal reason why BMW won’t let them change it as there’s no technical reason and it’s an affront to nature’s balance.
While no technical reason, I would think the shear cost of designing a bespoke electronic shifter to work with the ZF's computer linked to the engine ECU etc., would be enough to not make it worth their while, especially given that BMW can't even be bothered to re-design the thing properly for RHD applications which means they can't see economies of scale to do that, which might go some way to explaining why Morgan aren't going to do it either..........

They shouldn't really need to change the electronics, just the awful housing.

Yes, when they made the comment about the automatic being what the customers are wanting, it suggests that they’re looking at China and Arabia as their new markets. European and American enthusiasts still take the three-pedal option, the new money wants to buy something that’s as simple to operate as any other car.

I have never understood these cars or who buys them. If you want something old, get something old. If you want something new, get something new. Buying a car made out of new bits but with all the downsides of an old design, cramped, drafty, leaky and unsafe in a sizable crash seems daft.
I can see the appeal, or at least of the older ones.

I drove a 4.6 Plus 8 (Rover V8) back in the day and loved it. And placed an order. Sadly life didn't turn out quite as I planned and I never managed to afford it. Although I don't recall it being anywhere as expensive then. Think it was £36k or something. Which must be nearer to £60k in today's money.

I really couldn't do an auto in a car like this though. For me the entire point is a "new" classic car. I do love how this new one looks though.
For nearly £100k I'd rather a mint Healey 3000 or E Type. I have a Healey and apart from the lack of power steering, there isn't much difference to driving a modern car. Comfortable, quick enough, sounds great and looks fantastic. No tax, no MOT, insurance for peanuts and if you look after it it will be worth a lot more in 10 years than it is today.

I know which one I would put my money into.

Catchpole's just driven it.

The BMW gear selector continues to be all levels of wrong.

Visually amazing. But an automatic in a car like this just seems wrong. Would rather 2 sec slower to 60 and a manual gearbox.
Same here and my heart sinks whenever I see an auto in a performance car. I guess without being too ageist though the punters who want these are probably too old to be bothered with three pedals and a stick.

I'm heading towards 50 years old and I feel at least 25 years too young for something like this!

If its similar to the bmw DTC theres alot of tech going on in that gear knob assembly. The dtc can now be run in any car with a certain after market ecu,but that dreaded shift assembly need to go with it, which looks quite funny in race cars etc, and Morgans of course smile

I would agree with you on that but referring to Morgans as kit cars is a bit silly.

Indeed, but that tech is not inherently tied to the awful plastic case.

I had an early Plus 8 for a very long time, and I truly LOVE Morgans. Of all cars that absolutely MUST have a manual gearbox, it's a Morgan (at the very least as an option). That this is automatic-only is beyond unforgiveable. Private equity ownership (Morgan was the oldest car company in the world to still be owned by the founding family) and no manual 'box. So very, very sad. Feels like when GM bought Saab.

I couldn't agree more and fear that if they continue in this vein they will die. Very happy memories driving around Souther France a few years ago in a navy Plus 8, Mrs Blue not quite so happy!!

There must be enough cars suffering from the looks of the generic ZF/BMW stick by now to make a working business case for an after market solution wink. Alfa Giulia, Toyota Supra, Morgan +6...

Loved my old Morgan Plus 4. Love the look of this but not the auto box or the price. Seems a bit toppy really but I’d like a test drive anyway. I think my next Morgan will be a three wheeler.
