most people see lotus as cheaply knocked together in a shed, excellent for driving but not "quality" products. I seriously, SERIOUSLY, doubt a £200k Lotus supercar would sell well, when the competition is so highly regarded (lambo, ferrari, aston etc)
Which is fair enough if that is your opinion, I don't completely disagree with what you are saying. Will producing a very small number of cars at 2 million pounds do enough to alter these preconceptions and suddenly make a 200K Lotus viable if it isn't already?

If Lotus build a good car at that price point then it will sell.

Lets not forget when Mclaren released the F1 they had no road car experience prior to the F1 and were a completely new car company in terms of production cars. Lotus itself has a great history and the Esprit was better than both Lamborghini and Ferrari's early attempts at a v8 engined car in the 80s. Quite a lot of people who own high performance super cars have owned or do own lotus cars. Lotus build some of the best handling cars that you can buy and they often feel and handle better than the cars from Maranello. Due to this Lotus is already half way there in terms of building a good super car. They already know how to make it handle and feel right. Having better interior build quality than Mclaren shouldn't be hard since Mclaren's interiors are pretty rough tbh.
Which is kinda my point. I just don't think that it would be as significant a mental leap as others do. It would have to justify the extra expense obviously, a rehashed Exige/Evora wouldn't cut it but I can see no real reason why this couldn't be the case.

Whether it will work or not is another question, but there is no doubt that people have brand perceptions which colour whether their cars are seen as value for money quite apart from any objective judgement of their cars - and there is an odd perception that a Lotus should be cheap. People baulk at the price of an Evora in a way they don't at the price of a 911.

Fair enough. I've not noticed it myself to the extent where I thought that it must be a commonly held belief to be honest.

Fun fact;

I did my work experience at Lotus back in the Nineties with my best mate. We just about managed to get through to the second week before everyone was laid off so not only did we manage to gain some valuable work experience we were also able to gain some sitting at home in front of the TV whilst being unemployed experience too.

Personally, think they missed a chance to call it the Lotus Eywa, after the mystical force that keeps Pandora’s ecosystem aligned in Avatar. #geekalert

That's a point I'd forgotten.

Lotus have an uncanny knack of releasing new cars just as a recession hits.

A quick google of Evija brings up a Lithuanian cream to which can be be applied on wounds, burns, abrasions, frost-bitten, dry and cracked skin.

Or a site saying the name derived from the Hebrew name “?awwah”, which in turn was derived from the Hebrew word “chavva?h”. The latter sums up what I think of people who like to use weirdly spelt unpronounceable names.
Very good this.

Ps if they ever do an EV-hydrogen hybrid they should call it the ‘EVian’.

Yes, the last time they launched a proper new car was 1976.

Let's hope their new dream car doesn't disappear without trace like the still-born Lotus Etna V8

Aren’t we all ignoring that they could well be the first with an EV supercar on the market? Could possibly even beat Tesla to that claim.

That’s quite a statement and big way of repositioning yourself as a global brand.

I’m not a fan of idea of a 2 million EV supercar but you have to admit it will be pretty unique.
You mean other than Rimac?

What did they launch before ‘96 which had anything in common with the Elise?

What did they launch before 2008 that had anything in common with the Evora?

Stop trolling and go polish your Porsche.
