Really, you don't read or watch any motoring sites or magazines at all then?? Probably rolling around on the floor I expect. There's far too many to reference but lets not go too far back - be especially painful for the A45 or M140i, have a look at CAR's verdict on the brand new A35 against the Civic this month for example.

But if badge snobbery and soft touch plastics, switch like DSGs and headline power figures are your thing, that's fine.

Maybe AMG will see if they can haul one around the ring in less than 8mins this time eh?
I know this is the internet and you can’t believe everything but no word of a lie, I hardly ever fill up without someone saying nice car, nor do I ever park it and see people looking back at my car as they walk past. I had a 430d Gran Coupe and that car was invisible to everyone. I know the 4 series isn’t an A45 but my point is that German cars all look the same to someone who doesn’t know about cars.

The A45 shouldn’t be compared to the Type R as it is literally apples and oranges if you’re a buyer.

BUT, if you were to drive both of them for an hour then decide which one to have for a weekend, I’m 99% sure that everyone will go for the Civic.

You're a Civic FanBoi - we get that. Thats ok.

Quite right that they compared the Civic to the A35. Thats where its pitched. A45 S competitor? Nope.

Spotted on Facebook, it appears the Merc also has fake vents and a wing only for aesthetics and fake (!) exhausts yet the Civic’s childish?

Badge snobbery, nothing more to it
That Civic is always in my office car park and parked next to me once or twice. Have mentioned it a few times in the Yorkshire spotted thread but seems the owner doesn't venture to that part of the forum much.

I think thats exactly it. We should be celebrating the sheer breadth of options people now have in this sector. Theres literally no "one size fits all" answer.

Lots of choice, pick what suits your requirements best smile

Aside from looks, the Civic didnt suit our needs anyway so it was never in the running. No doubt a hoot to drive and own though.

I started reading this article and began to think...ooh this looks worth considering....then as I read more and more about it, I realised that as an actual ownership proposition, this is a car no one will want to maintain; at least not outside of warranty. This is one hideously complicated car so will be good only for people prepared to fritter away their pennies on its first three-year-lease and then dispose of.
mine spent 4 months in a workshop with the engine out waiting for the revised 'cure the clunking' gearbox

hate to think what that would cost out of warranty

glad to see it has a new box
Exactly. Lets hope that they are better screwed together than the A class cars that ive been in.. They all rattled around the dash and the screens.

No doubt the Mark 8 Golf R will have 400hp as rumoured to join the BMW 140 with 400hp.
Thought VW had said they weren't entering that territory with the Golf R?
I thought it had been confirmed the mk8 Golf R will have 328bhp

Golf R "Plus" is supposed to be circa 400BHP

It’s a woman on the FK8 Owners Club on Facebook, I think she’s getting it wrapped in matte black now !

I'm a bit long in the tooth to be called a "boi" of any sort, but I'm definitely a fan of the FK8 - no apologies for that and i've had 1 or 2 decent cars over the years.

Imagine being Mercedes and going to all this trouble to build a car that isnt as good as an RS3.
swings and roundabouts, having owned both the 45 is much much better to drive, the turn in makes the RS3 feel like its got 10 tonnes ahead of the front axel

the 5 pot is to die for (although the 45 engine is witchcraft for a 4 pot) but at a cost I avg'd 18.8mpg in my 3 against 27.6 in the 45 driving exactly the same route every day

the audi interior quality is on a different planet to the previous gen A series which is no better than my OHs kia, not driven the new A class yet
Slower cars with smaller engines do tend to be more fuel efficient wink

Have you driven an A45? Awful, hard ride with an interior only the UAE could love

I have. We had one for 2 years from new. Great car, read the reviews and got the adjustable suspension (though being a facelifted car it probably didnt need it).

Interior was great except for the stick on display on the dash which i didnt particularly have issue with.

I've only had one Audi to be fair...but it was the worst performance car that I've driven by some margin. I loved the interior/the way it looked and it was relatively quick too...but fun...not a chance in hell for me. frown

The A45 wouldn't have to do much to be more fun than an Audi IMO.

And I'd say that if someone were to drive a 2019 Subaru STI (if they were still sold in the UK) and the Civic...they'd go for the Subaru, and I'd say the same for the Focus RS vs the Civic as well. The Civic is a great car but its compromised compared to its AWD competitors

UAE? That's a bit harsh innit? Lots of cars have 'ambient interior lighting' now and its got nought to do with either the UAE or China, where such cars are still a rare sight.

No price. Will be interesting.

Amazing engineering achievements here and elsewhere in this class. Amazing progress.

But.....in gear acceleration. Bored of rampant 4wd 0-60 times. But paints only part of the picture.

So too the stressed out 4 pots as a post warranty purchase.

Then again as the lover of the maverick m140i option, crying at BMW joining the fart box four club I would say all of this.....

I'll stick with the unique and visit Litchfield in 6 months at the end of the warranty.
carwow vid says S model only to the UK and starting at 50k (matches RS3)

the 500nm of torque should be interesting for normal driving depending where it is in the rev range
And that's the interesting bit, what have they sacrificed for a headline figure. A four pot 2.0 wouldn't be my engine of choice for that kind of power.
