Once the options are ticked (if similar options to the A35) then were looking at a £60k+ Hot Hatch.

For that kind of money, I'd want more than an A-Class. No matter how fast it is.
Without getting internet angry that seems a really stupid comment. If they called it a Z45s Special Projects AMG Drift Edition would you be ok with that staggering performance for that price? It's not a 1999 A class is it!

Is it false exhaust tips again!
How joyless does a person have to be to look at a 400+hp hatchback and the first thing they think about is false exhaust tips ?

420 bhp and 168 top speed??

155 limited and you need to pay extra to go faster?

Ha! Step in the Civic Type R, 169 mph, goodbye
You don't, by chance, drive a Civic do you?

Yes there is.
The front splitter, canards, spoiler is all part of the aero pack, a cost extra

Remove it and it can look like any other A Class, but spec the Night Pack and you can get big wheels.

No price. Will be interesting.

Amazing engineering achievements here and elsewhere in this class. Amazing progress.

But.....in gear acceleration. Bored of rampant 4wd 0-60 times. But paints only part of the picture.

So too the stressed out 4 pots as a post warranty purchase.

Then again as the lover of the maverick m140i option, crying at BMW joining the fart box four club I would say all of this.....

I'll stick with the unique and visit Litchfield in 6 months at the end of the warranty.

Self worth’s a bit strong, I sold my BMW and replaced it with a Civic, I’m not trying validating my self worth using a machine however it does look like it as I’m pointing out how my Japanese Civic has a higher top speed than a 420 bhp 55k + merc.

The Civic has no limiter. At 168 the AMG has a limiter. Any decent tuner will remove it and give you 180+

Yup. Went from an A45 to an M140i. Great cars for the price, and great tuning potential too.

Yes, because the A45 is limited. Your car isnt.

I'm sure the Civic is a great car to drive but I think it is just horrible to look at. I'd take the A45 even if it was 1.5mph slower as it seems less brundlefly.

It’s limited because it can’t handle the extra speed, doesn’t have a massive wing like mine proving downforce, a first in its class and the only in its class to do so, it also has 3 real exhausts so...the Civic wins, cheers

Spotted on Facebook, it appears the Merc also has fake vents and a wing only for aesthetics and fake (!) exhausts yet the Civic’s childish?

Badge snobbery, nothing more to it

With respect, the Civic is painful on the eyes to look at. I had one behind me this evening and my immediate thought was "fk me that thing is ugly".

The Civic looks like it was styled by a blind monkey with a grudge against humanity.

BUT, on the plus side, its not £50K+, which is frankly ludicrous for an A45 S.

One is FWD and interesting...the other is 4WD/RWD and bland.

Why even compare them?

I'm sure, give anyone the choice most would go Merc...give someone the choice of car + change from 60k then it's a different matter.

Both have their place.

Nobody gives a st if a car does 150 or 170. How many hit them speeds on their commute through the town to Lidl?

I think their design studio copied the Subaru WRX/STI hatch from 2011-14. The styling is uncanny in its packaging!!!!
